Resolved Question: Nervous for tennis tryouts?

So I was on my college's varsity tennis team last year and we have tryouts in 3 weeks. I am in really good overall physical condition, I run about 5 miles a day and do other machines at the gym. However, I have not played tennis in about 2 weeks and I don't know if I will get to play again before we go back to school which means I will go 5 weeks without picking up a racquet! What are some things I can do at home or the gym during the next 3 weeks to make sure I am ready for tennis tryouts again?! I'm really nervous that I won't be good anymore when I go back!!!  more

Resolved Question: Do you think I could play tennis?

I'm 6'0, and the starting point guard on my schools basketball team. I'm pretty quick, and I can even dunk. Anyways, I want to play another sport too, and I was thinking tennis, since I'm way to skinny for football, even though I'm fast enough. I know you need stanima to play tennis, and I got that easily. Think I have a remote chance of making the team atleast even though I've never picked up a racquet a day in my life?  more

Resolved Question: Tennis Strings?

I recently broke my stings on my racquet and I need to get a new string. The string that came with the racquet lasted me around eight months, but the string that I got to replace it lasted me two weeks. So this time I want to be careful on which string I pick. I am a baseline player and I like to hit shots with a lot of Topspin. So I want to get a racquet that adds a lot of spin in my shot. I also want that string to be durable. So can someone tell me what type of string I should get (Natural gut, hybrid,Multifilament Strings, Structured Strings etc), if that makes a difference, what tension it should be at, and what the gauge should be? It would be great if someone could give me string names that would work for me.Thank you!  more

Resolved Question: Can someone PLEASE edit and offer suggestions for the SECOND part of my essay, please......it is due tomorrow?

Three years old, clutching the racquet with all of my strength, standing on a clay court opposite of my dad on a hot, sunny afternoon is where my passion for tennis began. Trying to return the ball with a forehand, I missed many times, and yet, I never gave up, I never complained, as no matter how many timed I struggled, I enjoyed every second that I spent on the tennis court. From the beginning, I don’t think that it was the game of tennis itself that caused me to fall so deeply in love with this sport. To this very day, I believe that waking up early, sneaking out of the house on those bitterly cold mornings, and going to play tennis with my dad was what I enjoyed most about tennis, and still stays close to my heart. My father, my role model, and my inspiration to play tennis. Standing on the court as a child, my only wish was to impress my dad, and try to be the best that I could possibly be. I tried to soak in all of the things he taught me like a sponge, and cherish every last second on the court, because although I was only three years old, I knew that that mere hour spent on the court with my dad each week, wouldn’t last forever. As my first year of playing tennis with my dad passed by, my love for tennis grew everyday. All I can say is that I was truly addicted to tennis. Tennis became my “therapist”, as all of my problems would somehow be solved and forgotten once I stepped onto that court. Standing on the hard green tennis court in my “ready position” like a warrior with his shield, prepared for any bullet that came his way, I felt on top of the world, I felt invincible. That “perfect combination of violent action taking place in an atmosphere of total tranquility “, as Billie Jean King, one of my greatest idols put it, is what makes this sport so captivating to me. I could never imagine what my life would be like without tennis, as it truly is a large part of both the physical and mental aspects of my life. So much more than just merely a hobby, tennis is part of my personality and has helped build the foundation for the person I am today. Tennis has taught me both discipline and mental strength from a very young age. From an age as young as 7, I learned how to mentally play tennis, and how to never give up, even in the worst conditions. Knowing how to pick up my mental game and stay focused in the midst of a bad match, has had a major impact on my life outside of tennis as well. The perseverance, dedication, and commitment that I have learned in my years of playing tennis has effected almost everything that I do, because I do everything the way I play a tennis match. When I am struggling to complete a certain task or stay concentrated, I simply tell myself to “get my head in the game”, just as I would do when playing a match. Not only have I learned discipline, perseverance, and determination by playing the beautiful game of tennis, however, I have also learned patience, and gained many problem solving skills. For as long as I have played tennis, I have found myself in the middle of a match, countless times, bouncing a ball, and thinking of ways that I could win. This has contributed to many aspects of my life, as I have learned how to critically think and attack a situation in order to solve it. “Patience is power; with time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes a silk gown.” This ancient Chinese Proverb, which talks about the importance and power of patience, is a quote that I truly agree with. In my opinion, I believe that patience is one of the most important virtues that one can posses, however, not many people do. Patience is also a virtue that I have learned from playing tennis for many years. I have many times found myself in situations where I am losing a match, with my palms sweating, and my heart beating so hard I can feel it on my chest, all I really want to do is give up and snap my racquet in half. Yet through these situations, I have learned how to control my strong emotions, and patiently stick through the game until I finally triumph or loose after trying my very best, and only then would I be fully satisfied. btw...im in grade 8...if that helps Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  more

Resolved Question: Does price really matter when it comes to tennis racquets? What are some good options in lower price range?

I recently went to a sporting goods store to look at tennis racquets. Wow, so many to pick from. From 19.99 to couple hundred. All tout some funky technology or have catchy name. After handling a few I noticed that some cheaper ones feel better or lighter than the expensive ones. Is the difference mainly in the string? Do they use some kind of expensive string on the expensive ones? Since it's been a while since I played i bought a $20 Wilson titanium racquet that looks very nice, I will test it out and see and maybe upgrade later. I also bought a $20 Head racquet but that one seems to vibrate more when you bounce the ball on it. Is that caused by a different string tension?  more

Resolved Question: Best CHEAP Wilson Racquet on TennisWarehouse.com?

I've just used TW.com's Demo program to see if the "Wilson nTour nCode 95" & the "Wilson nCode nSix-Two Mid+" racquet will improve my tennis. If those don't work for me, i'll demo more racquets. I only have a week per demo & i demo 2 racquets at a time & that sort of puts me on a little budget since i'm pretty poor and i barely have any way to get extra money (im 14). Which Wilson racquets do you guys recommend? I sort of want to stick with the Wilson racquets right now. My style, im not so sure about that. I use topspin most of the time on the baseline, and "sometimes" i go to the net to put the ball away with volleys/overheads. I'm not exactly a Power Baser cause i use topspin and my shots are pretty weak except sometimes, my shots are fast since ive got 'some' power & extra topspin attached to the ball. I'm not a serve&volleyer cause i'm short&skinny & my smashes/volleys need more work. i dont have much specialty shots except sometimes i pick the ball on the rise. Help Me? Sorry my typing was sort of bad previously, my typing space was limited. Anyway, Like i said, i sort of want to stick with cheap Wilson racquets. If i have to, i'll buy a $150 racquet except higher and it might be trouble for me; i'm not exactly reeling money in. My previous racquet is an OS (i want to downgrade to mid/mid+) and the grip is pretty old, needs restringing and is a 5/8. i think the grip is probably too big for me except it seems to be my size even tho i have small hands. Any more information, just ask. Thanks! P.S. i'm like 5'2.5", age 14, freshman. Also, to me it sounds like i'm an all-rounder except i'm not so sure yet. Next i might demo the Wilson nTour Two nCode racquet and/or the Wilson nBlade.  more

Resolved Question: I asked my ex for a favor and my bf flipped out. Was that wrong?

I started this new tennis class and needed to buy a racquet. My ex, who I haven't been with in like 4 months, is a tennis player. I gave him a call and asked him if he knew of any cheap places where I could get a racquet. I didn't ask my bf for help on this because I knew that he is really low on funds and I needed the racquet asap. My ex was really cool about it and said since my b-day is comming up he would give me 1 as a gift. He also knew that I was in a relationship. I didn't think it would be a big deal to tell my bf that I was gonna go get a racquet from my ex because its not like me and the ex would ever see each other again except for that day. While i was heading over the ex's house my bf called me and asked me where i was. I told him i was gonna go pick up a racquet at my ex's and he got super mad. He came and picked me up so fast. He was telling me I was dumb and i should have asked him for help and why was i calling him and I shouldnt be talking 2 him and that I did wrong.  more

Resolved Question: Is todays tennis racquet technology mostly hype?
