Voting Question: Actually Sourav Ganguly in great form of his career, why he announced his retirement?

Sourav played very well in last one year. He is in great form of his career. Infact every match he scored minimum 50 runs. Why he suddenly announced his retirement from Test Cricket. I feel very very sad. I miss sourav in Chennai test match against England. Because I am from Chennai. I want to see sourav playing test matches. Actually When Imran Khan announced his retirement before the world cup 1992 I think. Infact he didn't played Internation cricket for one year and more. Suddenly Pakistani Cricket Board request him to re-consider his retirement. Infact you believe it or not. After that only Pakistan won that famous world cup under his captaincy. I request Indian Cricket Board and Sourav Ganguly to re-consider his decision. Once again sourav should play in International cricket. Because except Dhoni and Yuvaraj singh in the Indian team others batting is so boring. Ganguly is the real fighter. Always there is no shortage of thrilling while he in ground. I want to see India win the world cup and Sourav once again waving his T-shirt in the air.  more

Resolved Question: Another blog. Which cricketers do you think are cool?

Pakistani’s have always been cool. Imran, Safraz, Abdul, Mushtaq, Inzy... Heck, the list is endless. The other sub continent sides have been severely lacking in the coolness department. They have had the odd Fonz, like Azharuddin and Shastri, but they were the exceptions. Times have changed though. Somehow in spite of themselves India and Sri Lanka have produced cool players. I think Yuvraj (Sourav who) and Dhoni are quite cool. Sri Lanka has some dudes in their team now that are also quite cool. Malinga has a hair style that makes Nathan Bracken look straight, an eyebrow piercing and a bowling action that makes him look slightly retarded. And yet the boy is still cool. But he has nothing on the King. Kumar is like Charlie Bronson in the dirty dozen, tough, talented and a mother f**ker to boot. He is the prototype of what Sub Continental players should be. Talented, gutsy, brilliant, aesthetically pleasing, and a player who loves a scrap. He sledges like Steve Waugh in a world cup. He bats like Lara used to when he was interested. He keeps better than most of the worlds stoppers. And of recent times he is as close to batting perfection as I have seen. I think for the good of world cricket, he came along at the right time. The Proboters are starting to take over, and we need the likes of Kumar to fight the good fight. Too many batsmen play like they are fighting for their mortagage, he bats like he is trying to win a cricket match. Keith Miller style. His innings in Tasmania last year was more than enough reason to keep Hobart on the map for the next few years. No one f**ks with the king baby. What do you think about Sangakkara? Who else is cool? No-one appears to be reading my blog. I like Andre Nel. It's funny watching him give someone a vicious outburst for two minutes for something ordinary e.g batsman missing an outswinger. My new question. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Al.PdlKwH4604lrRO4piQptZxQt.;_ylv=3?qid=20081130231712AAF9JjA  more

Resolved Question: World Cup For Australia or NZ?

It has been said that the 2011 WC may be moved to another country because of the continuing terrorist activities in the sub continent.ICC meet next week to discuss a possible move to another venue & NZ & Aus have been suggested. Although the WC is scheduled to be held here in 2015, it may well be moved forward to 2011, according to cricket sources. What are your thoughts on this? Why on earth would it move to England? Carlos, read the Q. You DID read it didn't you? It says that the WC may be held in Aus or NZ if things don't improve in the sub continent( security wise)  more

Resolved Question: Is England the only team that would have Tim Ambrose?

Tim Ambrose. Tiny Tim Ambrose. I'm quite sure that he's a great guy in real life and all that. I'm also quite sure that he's come through a lot of adversity in order to play professional cricket, as he must have been under great pressure to focus his energies on a career as a rowing cox or a jockey. But would he get a Test anywhere else in the world? Let's take a cursory look, without really assessing any evidence, and see whether Tim would elbow out any of the current wicketkeepers in world cricket. AUSTRALIA: Current keeper is Brad Haddin. Tim can only DREAM. He wouldn't be good enough to be in the top ten Australian keepers. Ronchi, Crosthwaite, Paine, Hartley, Manou, Smith, Clingeleffer, Anderson and Wade all beat him. NEW ZEALAND: Current keeper is Brendan McCullum. Also hanging around is Gareth Hopkins. Tim looks a bit like Gareth Hopkins, but that's the closest he's getting. If Prince Brendan was English, he'd be bigger than Freddie. PAKISTAN: Kamran Akmal. There was a time last year that I thought he was going to be dropped, but he dug in against India and is still around. Tim might beat him in looks, but he can't compete INDIA: Current keeper is MS Dhoni, but Dinesh Karthik is also around for whenever Dhoni doesn't feel like it. Again, total dreamland for Tim. Karthik beats him with the bat and Dhoni beats him with the hair. SRI LANKA: Prasanna Jayawardene is the Test specialist, another rather suave guy who's kept a bit who's not a bad batsman either. I happen to like Prasanna Jayawardene so there's no way I'd pick Ambrose over him. SOUTH AFRICA: Mark Boucher. Once again, Tim can only dream. WEST INDIES: Denesh Ramdin. He ain't no Jeff Dujon, and is properly babyfaced so that I can't imagine a filthy sledge coming out of his mouth, but is thought of as having "promise" and "potential". They might want him. BANGLADESH: Mushfiqur Rahim. Now, this is where things might get interesting for Tim, but I really like this kid. He's even teeny tinier than Ambrose (yes, such a thing is possible, yes, he must indeed be the size of an ant), and he's not yet twenty. I'm not convinced, though, that Tim would edge him out of a team. Mushfiq's top test score is 80, against Sri Lanka, digging in with Ashraful, but he's put in a couple of memorable one day performances, notably against India in the world cup. ZIMBABWE: Pushing his luck there. I'd pick Taibu or Taylor over him anyday.  more

Resolved Question: What did you think about Inzamam-Ul-Haq?

It’s hard not to like Inzy. His grace was probably only matched in recent times by Gower, Chappell (Greg), VVS Laxman and Mark Waugh. However all these men were lithe and smooth creatures and you got the feeling everything they did was smooth, especially with the ladies. Inzy is built like a lumberjack, and when not holding a cricket bat, he has the grace of a drunken lumberjack, on New Years Eve, in a snow storm, picking up a tea cup, off a quick moving seal. Something transformed when he held a bat though, his stillness at the crease was almost hypnotic. He was the opposite of most modern batsmen who jump around like they need a p*** "coughMichael coughSlater". Inzy was a statue, then at the last minute a shuffle, great timing, and 4 runs. It was almost as if he didn’t switch on till the bowler hit the crease. Like Warne, Ranatunga and Mike Gatting before him, he proved that test cricket is not about how many laps you can run, or how heavy the weights are you lift. Cricket fit has nothing to do with real fitness. Ian Harvey was never fit, but I saw him bowl high class 20 over spells at less than 2 runs an over. Cricket fit is about being mentally and physically ready for the next ball. Inzy was never in shape, he was never an athlete. He was a batsmen, a slip fielder, and eventually a more than handy captain. In the west we never really understood him. He didn’t seem speak English (although he did), he didn’t give press conferences, he didn’t train, and he didn’t make enough high scores. He didn’t write tour diaries, appear on footy shows, praise Jesus, get drunk, release his own bbq sauces or sleep with skanky ho’s "coughShane coughWarne". He batted. Poetically. Stoically. Fluently. He would never have made it to the top level of cricket anywhere else than Pakistan. Which is why I love Pakistan. They don’t judge on techniques, temperament or training intensity, they look for wickets and runs. And that gives the game a colour. I will always remember Inzy as the man who gave Pakistan a world cup, the man who made running between wickets a vaudeville routine, and the man who seemed to be confused why Shane Warne wouldn’t just shut up and get back to the top of his mark and bowl. Inzy was different. Inzy was talented. Inzy was lazy. Inzy was a champion. Inzy was Inzy. And the game was better for having him stumble between wickets. Long live the chief. I know he's a Muslim. Before you make bad comments, he probably wouldn't have done those things (drinking, sleeping with skanky ho's), even if he was a member of a religion that does those things. I forgot to say, he would have been too lazy to do those things listed above. Great picture Mitch. It might be my next avatar. He did try to lose weight and he played poorly. The laziness is what makes him cool. It makes him more like normal people. Sachin can be very graceful, but he prefers to bludgeon the ball. Mitch, your picture will be my avatar. I'm changing it now. See, there. It'll be changed pretty soon though. He did get run out a lot. So did Marvan Atapattu.  more

Resolved Question: Will Mohammad Ashraful become the next Aravinda De Silva?

I like to make rash calls. Mohammad Ashraful is going to become the new Aravinda de Silva. It’s hard on Ashraful to be compared with some one we all watched for the best part of 20 years. But it’s the situation he finds himself in that reminds me of what Aravinda went through. Aravinda was born into a team that played its first test a year before he started, a country that was cricket mad, based in the sub continent. He was the team’s number one batsmen, even before he was ready to be so. He was a leader at a young age. A lot was expected of him. He even had to learn how to bowl. He's really short. Fast-forward 18 years, stay on the same continent but leave the island of Sri Lanka and head to the main land for Bangladesh. There we have Ashraful, who started playing for the tigers in 2001, the tigers started in 2000. He has been dropped a few times, because so much is expected of him. A yearish ago, he was named captain at the age of 23. Oh and he bowls, leg spin (first major difference). He is also quite short. Over the next few years, if Bangladesh are ever to become real players in the cricket world, and I’d like to think they are, another side who can beat South Africa is always nice, they need Ashraful to stand up and become their Aravinda. There is even more proof that Ashraful is ready to step up and carry his team, he recently made 263 in first class cricket in Bangladesh. Now I’m sure I could make 100 in Bangladesh cricket, I mean Jason Gillespie made 200. What is important is the fact he is already learning how to make big scores. Making big scores anywhere means concentration and discipline the two qualities that have been missing in him. The dude is on his way. I think by the end of his test career, a career where I think he could play over 200 tests, he will average close to if not over 50 in tests. Regardless, in modern cricket, sides win respect in World Cups. Every one is watching, it can be gained over night and it’s easier than a test series. So I’m saying pencil in the next world cup for Ashraful de Silva. The new little champion. I meant he has made 263 in first class cricket. It wasn't recently, it was a year ago. I'm not saying he's going to be the next Aravinda, i'm saying he will be a lot like him. The 50 batting average is overdoing it a bit. Having support would help him. Aravinda never had much help at the start of his career and it's what made him so great. I agree Ben. They need a few good scores. If Bangladesh become confident they can win matches, the wins will start to come eventually. De Silva was a deadset legend. Is it even remotely possible that he could turn Bangladesh into a good team, like De Silva did with Sri Lanka.  more

I have hosted a World Cup final. The first twenty20 international I hosted was for the country I'm in against a touring NZ side. I am the scene of one of the most incredible ODIs in history. The highest twenty20 score at this ground is 260/6. The biggest margin in a test match at this ground is an innings and 360, by a touring Australian side against the home country.  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of the concept of Champions trophy in cricket?

When you say Champions trophy it is said to be a tournament for the champions only ........Like in hockey we only have the top 6 playing that Elite tournament...I know there are not many countries playing cricket as they do in hockey...but if we had something like only top 6 or top 5 playing, it would be more appropriate to the name.....we have round robin and then final.......if all the teams had to play then they could have called it "mini world cup"....there is a difference between the term "Champions trophy" and "Mini World Cup"......do you think the name is fine? So it is because of very less teams in cricket I suppose.....they could have named it "mini WC"  more

Resolved Question: Are you committing the potentially fatal mistake of underestimating Australia?

Yes, they had a very bad test series defeat against India, but remember, this is AUSTRALIA we are talking about. What makes Australia so much more different from other teams of the world is their ability to dominate matches very efficiently. They still have players like Ponting, Hussey, Symonds, Stuart Clarke etc. in their line-up. So why is some already under the assumption that Australians are not a cricket powerhouse anymore? How many of you seriously think they won't mount a very serious challenge for the next World Cup? Or that they are no longer favourites in matches against, say, Newzealand, Pakistan, Srilanka etc.? Don't assume I am an Australian supporter. I am a Bangladeshi, and a fan of Bangladesh and Asian teams, but I am also realistic.  more

Resolved Question: Is this the end of Australia's ''undisputed'' dominance over world cricket?

I know this question is talked about very often these days, but I want non-biased, diplomatic and informed answers. I mean, they got beaten by such large margins in the two Tests against India that you can't call it a fluke. And it was as much because of their poor performance as it was because of India's brilliance. They don't have a hell of a lot of talented players in the pipeline, so what can we expect in the future, especially the next World Cup? Do you think it'll be another clean sweep for Australia it has been the last time around?  more

Resolved Question: Who am I? (10 points)?

I posted these earlier and nobody managed to get all three although somebody did get two of them. 10 points to first person to get all three. 1. I haven't played international cricket for over 4 years. I am contracted by the IPL I scored a test hundred batting at number 7 I am from the sub-continent 2. I have made 17 test hundreds and only once failed to get past 138. I have played county cricket I am tipped as a future International captain 3. I have won the under 19 world cup Despite being an all rounder my first class bowling average is higher than my batting average. I am associated with the number 16 (must say why to get full 10 points) I am highly unlikely ever to play test cricket for my country. If nobody gets it I will post the answers and the perspn that got two will get the 10 points.  more

Resolved Question: Who am I? (Sixth One) Hardest?

I have got three seperate answers and I have tried to make them as hard as possible unlike the last five. 1. I haven't played international cricket for over 4 years. I am contracted by the IPL I scored a test hundred batting at number 7 2. I have made 17 test hundreds and only once failed to get past 138. I have played county cricket 3. I have won the under 19 world cup Despite being an all rounder my first class bowling average is higher than my batting average. I am associated with the number 16 (must say why to get full 10 points) Seems to me you are all struggling a bit so I will help you out with a couple of clues. Number 1 is not a wicket keeper and is from the sub-continent Number 2 is tipped as a future captain for his country. Number 3 is highly unlikely ever to play test cricket for his country.  more

Resolved Question: what are the laws of cricket about use of external equipment ?

Adam Gilchrist used a squash ball in WC 2007 to enhance his grip so that he times the ball marvellously and he scored 149 runs which was the difference between SL having or not having that World cup ! however this equipment is an external media and not approved by ICC. Could you explain why is this external media misutilised to win that WC final which SL deserved to win ! all comments welcome ! god bless! any use of external media for cricket is illegal and that innings of 149 if removed from the final, the obvious winner will be only one team and that is runners up SL ! is the autobiography "true colours" of premier aussie cricketer describing about use of squash ball in gloves !  more

Resolved Question: Should England's cricket team be allowed to play in next year's twenty20 world cup? Would they be a disgrace?

to the tournament? They lost all their matches in last editon against good teams and they couldn't even put up a fight against the Stanfiord boys. So, will the English cricket do all their home supporters a favor by opting out of the world cup which is going to be HELD IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.  more

Resolved Question: Why Indian cricket don't get the respect it deserves ?

India is not best team, but it is the team that has given good competition to best team of world. In recent times,It has defeated England in England,West Indies in West Indies,Pakistan in Pakistan and Sri Lanka in ODI series at Sri Lanka. It has defeated South Africa in test in South Africa and is only 6th team in world to do so.It has defeated Australia in CB series finals, won 20-20 World Cup (a good team wins any championship no matter what format is it),were the finalists in 2003 World Cup,were finalists in 2000 Champions trophy and joint winners in 2002 Champions Trophy. But here foreign users still rate it below teams like England and New Zealand and compare them to West Indies and sometimes Bangladesh. This is really unfair as no team apart from India challenegd Australia. If you check performances of teams after 2003 World Cup in abraod matches:- India (Wins -13,Losses - 9) South Africa (Wins - 13,Losses - 12) England (Wins -10,Losses - 12) Pakistan (Wins - 5,Losses - 10) Sri Lanka (Wins - 8,Losses - 11) New Zealand (Wins - 5,Losses - 11) West Indies (Wins - 2,Losses - 21) I also don't love BCCI but that doesn't mean you should put down a team which is second best performer in abroad for last 5 years after Australia. Bill P,Sri Lanka don't have great ODI and Test record in total but that doesn't mean they are minnows. Damo, that's difference between India and other teams.Other teams once in a while defeated Australia and got great respect whereas India has to always prove to foreign media,ex-cricketers and their people that why they should be listed as one of best teams of world.India gets respect because of BCCI's influence and not because of India's improved perfomance over the years.that's where India gets the tag of under-rated team in world. MTBM,it is not racism. They rate Pakistan and Sri Lanka as better teams than India because these teams never challenged Australia. Bingalee, every country's players have done some misdeeds be it Pakistan,Sri Lanka,Australia or England. If any player from a country that has not done any misdeed, then it is Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. I am asking not only to foreign users but also to Indian users.Whenever india loses, you launch a attack against Indian team. But sometimes you fail to recognise that inspite of struggles they face, lack of infrastructure and other hardships, they are winning for India so many matches.A recent example is when seniors failed in Sri lanka series, there was a agitation here and in media that seniors should be removed immediately. When seniors are performing well against Australia, then you want them in team. My fellow Australians,Australian cricketers are most hated in world and no team can come close to their misdeeds.it is bitter truth that your team is crybaby team who think it is ok to abuse other but when same come to them, they cry like a baby. Australian misdeeds 1.No team in this world used under-arm bowling to win match except Australia. 2.No cricket captain influenced umpire's decision by rasing his finger like a umpire except Ricky Ponting. 3.No cricketer sledged and abused batsman for not walking after claiming a false catch except Slater. There are so many instances. There is a proverb for you Jake G - Chor kotwal ko daate (thief scolds police).Australia is worst behaved team in world.you have to deal with this truth.  more

Resolved Question: What if.......(cricket Q)?

India never participated in the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. At first India were the only country against participating in the inagural T20 World Cup, and they only decided in the last minute to participate in the competition. In the end India won the T20 World Cup and India went T20 CrAzY. BUT before India won the T20 World Cup, not many Indian fans cared about T20 Cricket. SO IF India never participated in the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup would * There be an IPL? * Would there be a Stanford Super Series (with Allan Stanford acting like an idiot!)? * Would anyone actually care about T20? * Would money have as much influence in the game I would love to hear the thoughts of my fellow cricket fans!  more

Resolved Question: What can England do to improve their performances in limited overs cricket?

England have been abysmal at limited overs cricket for years. The last time they had a good team was in 1992, when they reached the World Cup Final. They play more limited overs cricket, domestically, than any other country. Yet they constantly seem to be playing catch up. What can they do to improve?  more

Resolved Question: Do you agree with me that India should learn from Sri Lanka that how should you respect your opponents ?

I am constantly listening here about 'Sydney test cheating'.I think they should forget what happened and should believe that India was destined to lose that match. See Sri Lankan cricket. After loss to Australia in World Cup 2007,our players could have cried "Australia is cheaters and umpires helped them win".But what our captain said after match:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/6604525.stm All should thank Australia that they have brought some professionalism in cricket which was non-existent few years back. Thanks to some bad pitches,India have defeated Sri Lanka 3-2.But that ODI series wins is negligible compared to Asia cup final and Test series loss against us.  more
