Open Question: knees painful after running?

my husband's knees are really painful after he has been for a run and as he has just signed up for a triathalon he really wants to know how to overcome the problem he is 28 years old. He swam for his county from the ages of 6-18 and dabled in other sports like cricket, rugby and rowing at school. He would run as part of his training and never had the problem with his knees then. Then at 18 went to uni and did virtually no exercise for four years! After that he joined a rowing club and has been going on and off for 6 years, but never really had much of a training programme and only ever concentrated on the rowing machine. He has been to the docs, but there is nothing wrong with his knees. He only gets the pain when he runs, not doing squats or anything like that. It makes no difference if his knees are kept warm or not and its a shooting stabbing pain that lasts up to 3 days. Is this purely a lack of training issue and if he just goes through the pain and strengthens it will get better or should he stop running altogether. Serious answers only. i'm happy to add extra details if needed to answer the question. Thanks  more

Open Question: Can Matt Banahan be England's Jonah Lomu?

If you're not familiar with English Rugby then you'll need to know a little bit about him. He's a 21 year old winger who plays for Bath in the Guinness Premiership. At 6'7 and 18st he began his career at lock when he played for the London Irish academy but his tremendous speed allowed him to switch to winger. In only his first season in the Premiership he was Bath's top try scorer and second overall in the Premiership behind Leicester's Tom Varndell. I'd say he's got all the attributes to make it to the top, just a little work on his defence and he'll be the complete player. I'  more

Open Question: Problem ejaculating during intercourse?

I'm a college freshman, and every single time I have engaged in sex, I find it difficult to ejaculate. This happens during both oral and vaginal sex. Originally I attributed this to being drunk, but recently I had sex when both me and my partner were perfectly sober, and after about 45 minutes of rather intensive vaginal thrusting, I called it quits and she had to resort to about 15 minutes of oral sex before I was able to ejaculate. I have no problems ejaculating during masturbation, don't have any medical conditions, and I'm not on any medications. I do lift weights several times a week and play college rugby, but I've never heard of exercise interfering with sex. Please help, I just want to be able to enjoy a normal sexual experience.  more

Open Question: My knee 'clicks' out of place occasionally?

Been trying to diagnose this for years (20+). Since I was a child my left knee will occasionally 'click' out of place. It is immensely painful and I have to straighten it immediately to pop it back into place. Nothing else matters just 'clicking' it back in. At all other times my knee is perfect. I've had an X-ray and MRI scan but no-one has ever been able to diagnose. I have fairly strong legs, quads are fine. Luckily for me i'm now old enough to realise how to solve the issue i.e. straighten leg. When I was young I wasn't so lucky. It's gone before while: swimming, playing rugby, doing athletics, and just sitting at my desk. Last time was while sitting on a chair swinging my leg. The only thing I can compare it to is dislocating a joint (although i've never dislocated anything so i'm only comparing descriptions i've had). Any advice/ideas greatly appreciated.  more

Open Question: Anyone fed up with missing Rugby games on TV because they are playing?

I hate missing Internationals, Prem games and other matches because of my playing commitments on a Saturday. Football is shown during the week, and loads of games on Sundays - yet Guiness Premiership still plays largely on Saturdays and I miss the big games. Also, my club has gone from running 5 sides a week to 3, as so many people decide to go and watch top sides rather than playing a game. Anyone annoyed by this?  more

Open Question: i need to be a more effective rugby runner?

hi, i am a 3rd year rugby player and are getting ready for my first season on a competitive club team, they are one of the tops in my province. but anways im a back player and i have always started for my school team in mostly wing fullback or flyhalf with some center too. and i am about average speed but not very fast but i am getting faster as i grow and get stronger, but i was curious as to which is more important to being a fast and effective rugby runner, lower leg muscles or upper leg muscles. i have pretty big calfs for my size (5"9 - 130 pounds) and i am nearly ambidextrous in my legs naturally so they are both equal stength. but i just want to be a faster more powerful runner and try to get as much playing time on the club team. thanks and sorry for the length of this.  more

Resolved Question: what rugby position should i play?

I've played flanker and lock. I'm a girl, first off, ha. 5'8'', 160 lbs I really hated playing lock because i hate sticking my head between other people's as*ses I really have no choice b/c my coach wants me to keep playing lock, i think, unless something changes (our scrum half and our other lock are studying abroad next semester) so positions will have to be switched around a bit. I'm pretty decent handling the ball, good at catching it and controlling it. i'm good at running b*tches down when I have the ball. one game i charged through 4 of them and gained 30 meters before someone finally tackled me. i'm not so good at running. when i see something happening i get pumped and i can pick it up and burst but i cant go for a really long time at a certain speed. so what position do you think i'd be perfect for? dude stfu. it's not too violent for women. god.  more

Open Question: I really want to change my rugby position but I need some advice. Can you help me?

I am 16 years old 176cm tall 64 kg My key strengths: I am pretty quick. I mean running 100m in 14 secs is pretty good(I guess) I often carry the ball myself rather than pass it(a bit selfish but it works) My handling is good Most of my teammates tell me that I can pass the ball really well(both far and accurately) My weaknesses: My stamina is not amazing comparing to people in the A team( I had a 10.5 on my bleep-test) My tackling is not great(my tackles are very strong but not low enough) I am not big and strong, like most people in the A team. At the moment my position is a winger or an outside center in a B team. I LOVE these positions but I really want to try something else. I am not quick enoght for the A team and thats why I want to apply my stenghts in a different position. I thought of being a fullback but I cant compete with a guy who is 186cm tall!!!!! Can you give me some suggestions because I really need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry guys, my bad. 14 secs in 100m is my old result. Its 12.02 now.  more

Open Question: Do you ever notice “straight” women flirting with each other, in a sexual way?

I notice other women doing it and I can sometimes catch myself doing it, too. I just think that women are soft and sweet when they aren't being vicious and evil. I want to touch their skin, kiss them and flirt with them. Why do you think a lot of women do this? I also notice something similar in men, too. When men tease each other in a “homophobic” way that seems like flirting to me, or when they get really competitive with each other, it can seem sexual to me. I've always found "macho" contact male sports to be homoerotic, like rugby or American football, for example. A.K. yes it is me, thanks. :) Sarcaztic Baztard, I imagine Tupperware parties might be a bit like Bachelorette partie. When you get a gaggle of women into the same room we inevitably start talking about sex in a very detailed and raunchy manner. Women can be so vulgar sometimes. lol  more

Open Question: Should rugby be more noticed in the united states?

I play rugby in college and we barely get any acknowledgment from the school. There is virtually no fans there. How does other American sports such as football and baseball shield rugby from being a huge American sport I know about USA rugby but, I have never even seen it on TV for god sake. Rugby is an awesome smash mouth sport that builds team unity and leadership skills just as good as any other sport. Why is the rest of the world so into rugby and why is America so far behind? I absolutely love this sport.  more
