Nascar Shop Questions asked

Resolved Question: i have a Question bout TIRES?

I had a friend give me a set of his old rims/tires. (He got some stupid 25' rims) These tires that were given to me are cooper ATR 10.5x11xr15 These tires got alot of life left in em'. When he gave them to me I went down to the tire shop and had them brake em down and flip em out (so white lettering is on the outside). Now my ride looks good... But I went to go show my tires off and my buddy saw them and he was like "DUDE! you cant do that! they will fly apart. You need to go get them flipped back over. and yada yada yada." Is this guy for real? Will tires fly apart if you start rolling on them in a different direction? I mean whats the deal here... I really want my white lettering so I look like nascar LOL...  more

Resolved Question: What is the coolest NASCAR race shop to visit?

I'll be going to Charlotte, Concord and Cornelius tomorrow to visit race shops. So far I'm going to Stewart-Haas, Hendrick, Gibbs, and Waltrip. Good set of shops or are there better ones?  more

Resolved Question: The Rules of Men . . . . . . . . . . . .?

We always hear "the rules" from the feminine side. Well now, hear the guys' side. These are our rules! (Please note, these are all numbered "1" on purpose) 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. 1. Birthdays, Valentines and Anniversaries are not quests to see if we can find the perfect present yet again. 1. Sometimes, we are not thinking about you. Live with it. 1. Do not ask us what we are thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as navel lint, the shotgun formation, NASCAR, fishing, hunting, or firearms. 1. Sunday = sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be. 1. Shopping is not a sport, and no, we are never going to think of it that way. 1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine. Really. 1. Crying is blackmail, and it'll make us angry. 1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work. Strong hints do not work. Obvious hints do not work. Just say it! 1. We don't remember dates. Mark birthdays and anniversaries on a calendar. Remind us frequently beforehand. 1. Most guys own three pairs of shoes -- tops. What makes you think we'd be any good at choosing which pair, out of thirty, would look good with your dress? 1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question. 1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for. 1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor. 1. Check your oil. Please! 1. Anything we said six months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after seven days. 1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one. 1. Let us ogle. We're going to look anyway; it's genetic. 1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done -- not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself. 1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials. 1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions, and neither do we. 1. The relationship is never going to be like it was the first two months we were going out. Get over it. And quit whining to your girlfriends. 1. All men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is. 1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that. 1. We are not mind readers and we never will be. Our lack of mind-reading ability is not proof of how little we care about you. 1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle. 1. I'm in shape. Round is a shape.  more

Resolved Question: Crash may prompt harsher penalties for aggression?

There was NO aggression there. That is RACING. I am serious; if they don't like this stuff they need to race bikes with training wheels...I mean I feel for those that were injured and you don't want to see that but what happened was competition. If liberal NASCAR wants to restrict an already strictly governed race they might as well close shop because they will loose a good portion of supporters. http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headlines/cup/04/27/talladega.harsher.aggression.penalties/index.html Any kind of penalty for blocking someone from you spot is wrong. Now if someone rams head on to spin someone out...different story. What happened with 99 and 09 was racing...that was nothing compared to what Dale Sr. and Petty used to do in the day when it was a modified stock car and a helmet. Any kind of penalty for blocking someone from you spot is wrong. Now if someone rams head on to spin someone out...different story. Resolved Question: Martin Truex's contract is different now from last year. EGR redid the DEI contract when they merged.......?

Martin Truex's contract is different now from last year. EGR redid the DEI contract when they merged. And the detail about needing two teammates was one of the things changed. Another change was that Bass Pro Shops originally had a performance clause, saying that if the No.1 car didn't compete to _________ standards, they no longer had to support the team. #8 team page (scroll down to the bit about Bass Pro Shops "having 'no out'") - http://www.jayski.com/teams/8.htm Truex denies leaving - http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup... And I'll try to find where Steve Luletta was talking about having the contracts redone. So my question is, did you know the contracts were changed? (I didn't until people started talking about the No.8 car being shut down) The point of redoing the contracts was that they had the flexability to close a team that was draining money from the operation, and make it so Truex had to stay. There is no way out for Truex. DEI may well win again, excpet it will be under the name EGR. If your an EGR fan, Almirola's team closeing may be good. It will streamline efforts and give both Montoya and Truex better pit crews. Jayski is reporting that EGR officials denied the reprt that Truex and Bass Pro Shops were now able to leave as well.  more

Resolved Question: Does anyone hate NASCAR?

i used to love stockcar racing--mopar man through and through but i absolutley hate nascar now well the last several years the cars all look the same--i cant tell the difference without looking at the grill all the guys at the shop have quit watching it also i talked to a guy at the service station the other day and he had season passes to races--he just gave them back and said he hated nascar--he wants to watch real american iron racing and why is toyota in it --they look so out of place so when i want to watch racing i just get out my collection of 1960s and 1970s films and wouldnt you know it---actual stockcar racing hey instead of real nascar fans leaving why dont we try and let nascar know that we want it to go back to stockcar racing and not all these cookie cutter girlie -man cars yes i raced for years--built my own cars and even won a championship  more

What retired driver would you like to see drive again ? The Wisdom of an Older Man An older man approached an attractive younger woman at a shopping mall.'Excuse me; I can't seem to find my wife. Resolved Question: Rain covers for NASCAR?

Im going to be learning to drive soon, after my holiday to the United States actually :) I have recently found love for NASCAR and wondered is there any shops over there (Being from Ireland and visiting once before I know of Target, Home Depot < No use I think and Walmart) I was wondering is it possible to get the NASCAR rain covers, lol, since i live in a country where it never seems to stop raining, I'd have the cover over the car just to show off to all my neighbours >=] So, any shops that can help folks, or intenret only. Resolved Question: Could shutting down underfunded teams be a good thing ?

On the surface, NASCAR losing a team like the 28, seems like a terrible thing. And it truly is for the employees. But is there a silver lining ? Can a team that has a sponsor, but lacks good personnel at the shop make good use of the opportunity to hire better employees than they could afford before ? A lot of teams like the 28, 8, and 44 are going to dissolve soon, without a sponsor. That will put many veterans of the NASCAR garage on the market, and most will be willing to work for less money. So can shutting these teams down, actually make others better ? And in doing so actually improve the overall on-track product of the sport.  more

Resolved Question: What would be an awesome theme for cabin night at band camp?

My friends and I really want to win cabin night this August for our senior year at band camp. We did a rockstar theme last year, a Las Vegas theme the year before, and a circus theme the year before that. We're looking for something pretty unique, 'cause you can't really win if you aren't being original. (Examples of themes of other cabins would be like haunted house, NASCAR, Hawaii, the Big Apple, rodeo, the red carpet, an ice cream shop, Mardi Gras, etc.) Can you give me some cabin theme ideas?  more

Resolved Question: Going to a Nascar race with Toddler?

I'm going to my first NASCAR race in March in Vegas, and am bringing a 2 1/2 year old. Resolved Question: Why is KV racing folding up shop?

I thought that the IRL was supposed to be as big as F1 or NASCAR.......... You must not know Jimmy V very well. They ONLY way they run this year is on Tonybux. I also wonder why Conquest's sponsor announced they were pulling out last night. Looks like one ride buyer along WITH Tonybucks. But the team plans on closing shop for 2010 after KK completes his promised two seasons after the 'merger'  more

Resolved Question: Has anyone else noticed the deals on NASCAR merchandise?

I was doing some shopping online for some NASCAR Tees, etc, getting ready for Daytona, and man, I couldn't help but notice some of the price drops out there on NASCAR merchandise, talk about a sign of the economy when even Dale Jr stuff is drastically marked down. If you were thinking about picking up some stuff, now is a good time. I bought some of last years stuff, but did notice cheaper prices on new stuff also. Got some nice Red Bull stuff, not the biggest Red Bull fan, but the quality of their shirts, etc, is way better than most other teams use, their shirts are made by Puma and Push, as opposed to the common chase apparel stuff used by most other drivers/teams.  more

Resolved Question: Which one should I get?

Two auctions on Ebay go off relatively soon and my paycheck is hitting my account tomorrow. The first link is for a never-worn, brand-new, heavy Dale Jarrett coat whose scheme looks like it came from 1997 (heavy sentimental value for me), and costs around $55 shipped. The second auction is a "pick 14 races on DVD for $60" that definitely ends soon, and from the race selection, I'm crapping my pants! Plus that auction has free shipping! However, I can only make one decision. What will it be 'Nation? http://cgi.ebay.com/Dale-Jarrett-88-Winston-Cup-Series-Racing-Jacket_W0QQitemZ120289539830QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_SM_Fan_Shop?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 http://cgi.ebay.com/Nascar-Cup-races-on-DVD-Earnhardt-Gordon-Johnson-etc_W0QQitemZ180318166668QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray?hash=item180318166668&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 anewday, I understand what you mean. However, the seller isn't referring to scratches or markings on the DVD. He's referring to the image quality, and that truly does not faze me. As of so far, the jacket is winning hands down. I'll see how this is in the morning. Thanks for voting!  more

Resolved Question: Nascar Trivia! Can you name this driver?

I got my start working on cars in my dad's "shop" and honestly would probably be just as happy doing that now. I started racing my late model around Hickory Motor Speedway and saw a little success. My dad kept encouraging me and I made my way slowly thru the ranks. My first few seasons in Busch were very successful. My first unofficial year in Cup (only made 5 starts) I finished 48th in points but did manage a top 10. My rookie year didn't go as planned I was out classed by one of my biggest rivals....but I did show I had what it took. The next year was very challenging as one of best mentors wasn't around the track any more....alot of self doubt took over. But not to be denied I fought back and found my audience at the summer Daytona race that very same year. I haven't seriously contended for a championship yet but my time is coming. Let's just say I am electified over the possibilities. Do you know who this driver is???? Good luck and have fun with it!  more

Resolved Question: Will their be lines for food stamps on 1/20/09?

All the people who really love and care about America will obviously be celebrating the election of our new president or watching it on television. But what about those who are unhappy with the election results. They are probably going to want to avoid all news coverage and just kill time by running errands to keep busy. Does this mean the entire GOP base will be clogging up the lines at the welfare office, the liquor store, and the ammo shops? Will the army navy surplus store need to stock more camo trucker caps to handle the increased demand? Are the ratings going to be really up for the NASCAR channel, and is their satellite ready for it?  more

Resolved Question: how to deal with my stepdad?

Ok, I am a 13 year old eighth grader grader. My parents divorced when i was in first grade, at about age 6. My dad moved away to a medium sized house that is about 30 minutes away from my mom's house with my step mom whom i have no problem with and i go over there every other weekend and every Tuesday. I have a wonderful relationship with them and my half brother that was born 4 years ago. However, my mom remarried to a man i can hardly stand. Here are some of the things that bug me the most. 1. He deals absolutes ALL the time. Examples of these would be that when i play with my other half brother from my mom's side (also 4 years old) he constantly says that i am playing with him inappropriately and that it will end badly like it has "a million times." And then when i prove him wrong in his absolutes he tells my mom that i am showing him disrespect and that i am trying to make him look like a fool. 2. The man doesn't even go to work. He owns a shop and works on cars occasionally, but he even receives a $50 dollar allowance from my mom. He expects me to respect him, but this is my one point of disrespect towards him. How can I respect or look up to a man that doesn't even go to work and earn a living as a parent. 3. He mocks me for all of my interests. As a 13 year old, i have interests in video games, sports (especially baseball), and other things. He enjoys Nascar and Soccer, my two least favorite sports. However he mocks me for wanting to stay home on sundays to watch some NFL or stay up late a night or two a week to watch a baseball game. 4. He always says that i manipulate. Whenever i do something wrong and try to explain my point he says that i am trying to "win my mom over" and trying to turn the family against him. He has a step daughter that i met almost immediately when i met him and i have a wonderful relationship with her. It is not just me that has a bad relationship with him. My sister (16), step sister (15), and myself all find it hard to have a speck of respect for the man. How could i possibly make this better? I really don't think that moving out is a real choice. I promised my mom when i was about 10 that i would never leave her. This was after she got in a fight with him and was considering leaving him. My mom is a VERY emotional person. My mom and step dad have a mixed relationship at times, because my mom will often defend me when my step dad has a false point. My mom was even sent to jail for a night because she became intoxicated one night and hit my step dad because he was provoking her. So i don't think i could just leave her like that. My mom also doesnt have too good of a relationship with my dad and step mom because whenever i ask her if i can go over there she takes it offensively.  more

Resolved Question: I'm gonna start Christmas shopping soon & I don't know what to get for my dad?

My dad is a really hard person to shop for!! I need help thinking of ideas!! Keep in mind that I don't have a lot of money. My dad is a farmer, so he works all the time and is always under a lot of stress. He's into basketball - his favorite team is the Dallas Mavericks and his favorite player is Dirk Norwitzsky (sp?). He also likes NASCAR and his favorite driver is Jeff Gordon (ugh, I know lol). My dad isn't into the sentimental-type gifts, he prefers things that are practical. He doesn't need tools or anything like that. He has plenty of mugs and socks, lol. Now do you see why this is so hard? Lol! I thought about giving him tickets to a basketball game, but my sister already bought some for him. I can't send him to a race somewhere because that's too expensive for me, lol. I also thought of giving him a gift certificate for a massage to ease his stress, but my mom says he is too ticklish for that, haha. Please help me!! I really want to make my dad happy on Christmas, because with so much work to do and with so much stress, he is not a very happy person. =(  more

Resolved Question: Joey Logano NOT driving for Gibbs next year?

Okay, I don't think any of this will happen, but what do you think? From Jayski.com: Will plans to have rookie Joey Logano replace Tony Stewart next season in the #20 Toyota change? Speculation is Joe Gibbs Racing officials are trying to work out a deal to get #1-Martin Truex Jr. from Dale Earnhardt Inc. to drive the #20 car next year. If JGR can't get Truex, they might make a run at #2-Kurt Busch, who wants out of his deal with Penske Racing. A quick warning: Rumors are rampant these days in NASCAR because of the difficult economic times. So here's another rumor: JGR president J.D. Gibbs is expected to arrive at Phoenix today and possibility address this issue to deny all of it. The Logano/Truex gossip started because of DEI's tenuous situation right now on sponsorship, and growing concerns that the 18-year-old Logano might not be ready to race Cup full-time next year. But Home Depot, primary sponsor for the #20 Camry, already has invested tons of money in a marketing campaign for Logano. DEI picked up the 2009 option on Truex's contract in August, but another rumor floating through the garage is that Bass Pro Shops, the primary sponsor of Truex's car at DEI, may join Stewart-Haas Racing next year as the second sponsor for #39-Ryan Newman. DEI has discussed merger possibilities with Chip Ganassi Racing and Petty Enterprises. Will any of this actually happen? Probably not, but it shows how crazy things are these days on the speculation about the future for NASCAR teams and drivers. Thanks for clearing that up, Rowdy's #1 Fan. I would think that Jayski would have updated the rumor by now if that's the case.  more

Resolved Question: Dale Earnhardt or Richard Petty?

I am surprised that I haven't seen this question on here before, but here goes. Who do you think deserves the title "King of NASCAR"? Here is my view: I know that Richard Petty has 200 wins and Earnhardt had 76 and that they both won seven championships, but I think Dale Earnhardt is the true King of NASCAR because: Back in Petty's day, there weren't as many rules in NASCAR to limit what you brought to the track. If you could afford to build an engine that had 100 more HP than what everyone else(or most)could afford, then you could bring it and smoke the field. The Petty's had more money than most of the teams back then and, therefore, dominated. -During most of Earnhardt's time, the rules were implemented and things were on a more level playing field. So,I feel that Petty's 200 wins and 7 championships are overrated and(I know it's hard to compare drivers from different eras, but I am trying) don't think he would have had half as much success if he and Dale started racing at the same time. NOTE: I realize that teams with more money/resources these days can afford to buy better equipment for the shop and the rigs they bring to the track and all of that, but everyone still works within the same tolerances and with the same parts and bodies. To me,Dale Earnhardt is the King of NASCAR....who is to you and why?  more

Resolved Question: Poll: What do you think are the ten most important inventions/developments of the post World War II era?

An invention can mean anything from an every day household product to a major break through in science, medicine, etc. I'm looking for the inventions that mean the most to you personally. Here's my list: 1. Psychotropic medications (1950's - present); without these miracles of chemistry thousands of people with severe and persistent mental illness would be unable to live productive and fulfilling lives. 2. Automotive Fuel Injection (1970's - 1980's); before fuel injection starting your car could be an ordeal if the carburetor wasn't adjusted just right or it was simply a cold day. 3. The Internet (1990's); very few of us on this site could live without it. I use it for everything from shopping to socializing to vacation planning to wasting time on rainy days :) 4. Laptop Computers (1990's); I think a computer under 10 lbs you can take anywhere speaks for itself. 5. Linux Operating Systems (late 1980's - present); what do you do when MAC is too expensive, you hate Windows and you don't do much other than surf the web and use the office software? You grab an old laptop or desktop, wipe the hard drive and load up a good old open source OS that needs little maintenance. 6. Seatbelts (1950's); originally one of the first safety devices used in NASCAR stock cars. This simple strip of heavy duty woven nylon attached to a buckle has proven to be one of the most effective auto safety devices ever, if you wear yours, that is. 7. WD-40 (late 1950's); this accidental discovery is a fantastic and virtually mess free lubricant. I've also found that it makes a really good solvent for removing everything from tree sap to sticky insulation foam. 8. Digital Cameras (1990's - present); digital photography made sharing snap shots instantaneous. 9. Surgical Tape (2000's); Most surgeons these days use specially designed high strength tape to seal surgical wounds. Instead of having stitches pulled out one by one, a long seam of tape is removed in seconds. I had a surgery that involved a 14 inch incision across my chest; removing the tape was much more pleasant than having stitches ripped out! 10. Engineered Wood Products (1946>); building a house was more expensive and labor intensive before the invention and perfection of plywood, particle board, pre-engineered trusses and their kin.  more

Resolved Question: What is a great/unique anniversary gift for a mechanic boyfriend?

My boyfriend (soon to be fiancee) and I celebrate our two-year anniversary on 11/11 and I need some ideas on what to get him. I don't pretend to know anything about tools so I leave all of that stuff to him since he knows which ones he likes best.He is a 29-year-old Chevy man that loves hockey, football, Nascar, and drag racing, but we have limited space in the house (hoping to move soon) and items that collect dust are no fun. He doesn't have any spare time working 6 days a week at 12 hours a day so any time-consuming gifts are out of the question. He rarely takes a day off. Also, because of this, he really doesn't have any hobbies other than watching/attending sporting events or spending time with me. I didn't really want to spend much more than $100. I was hoping to get him a cool (new) gadget he could use at the shop but I have no idea where to look. Have any ideas? By the way, we live near Dallas, Texas.  more

Resolved Question: Have you seen three Roush-Yates motors around?

Three motors were stolen from their shop. You didn't take them did you? Three Roush-Yates engines stolen: Thieves made a fast getaway after taking three NASCAR racing engines from a well-known race shop in Mooresville. Police say someone broke into the Roush/Yates engine shop and got away with three of the big Ford engines used by the team in the Nationwide and Truck Series. The engines are worth $50,000 each. "These are not everyday engines, these are NASCAR specific engines, you can't put them in a car, plus they are Roush Yates engines, very specific," said Mooresville Police Lt. Joseph Cooke. The engines were taken sometime Monday night from the shop off Mazeppa Road. One of the workers said he knew it was going to be a bad day when he came to work and saw a big hole in the wall. The hole is big enough for thieves to get inside, then open the door. Each of the engines weigh more than 500 pounds. They're kept on rollers and that made it easy for thieves to roll them into a cargo van they happened to steal from another race team. "They stole a Penske rental truck, like a cargo van and used the cargo van to load up the engines and take the engines away." The thieves dumped the van, but made off with the engines. Unless they are in the racing business, they may find them tough to unload. "Those are specialty items you'd have to be in NASCAR or the racing business to use them, you can't just put these engines in your car." If you can help Mooresville Police, call them at 704-664-3311 , or South Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-658-9056 . If your information leads to an arrest, you be eligible for a reward.(WBTV CBS 3 site)(9-18-2008)  more

Resolved Question: What has happened to Nascar ?(please read before answering)?

I,at one time, was a huge Nascar fan. I live less than an hour from Charlotte,NC where all the shops. I was raised watching it everytime it was on. I would go to the races everytime they were in town. I even fixed up a little u-car racecar and raced at Caraway Speedway for a few years because I loved the sport and wanted to be part of it anyway I could. But now, I don't have the stomach to watch it. It is so dry with no personallity. When Kyle Busch is your face for the sport then you are in trouble. What happened to the homegrown drivers ? I raced against drivers at Caraway Speedway that I know could win in Nascar. Tommy Lemonds Jr. for one. But he will never get a chance because his family doesn't have the money to get him noticed. That is why this sport is full of rich punks with very little talent. I do believe my mother could outdrive some of those guys. I never thought I would give up on nascar , but I have. How do you guys feel ? winter glory-you would lose big time !  more

Resolved Question: Camaro ENGINE SWAP AND TBI?

My question is Im thinking about getting a 406 stroker http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/350-Chevy-408-Stroker-New-Crate-Engine-NASCAR-Shop-SBC_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1163Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1308QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem380062282637QQitemZ380062282637 This is the one IM looking into. As of now I have a stock 305 with tbi, would I be better to just get a carb setup on this engine? Rather than TBI, I don't care about gas mileage, I wanty performance, and drive it on the streets sometimes, not a lot though. And if I did do this swap, would it be hard to get my car right, I mean with all the computer bs, and everything? Whats all involved, I want at least 500 horses, I know it's a lot. But thats just what I want. I was thinking about putting a holley carb on there since I already had one. I personally like carbs than EFI.  more

Resolved Question: What amazing bargain have you found recently?

I like my $3 chicken and fries at NFC (yes, NFC, not KFC), but recently I was at the supermarket... I'm walking through the aisles of my local large grocery store thinking about grocery shopping of all things, when suddenly I see a "blowout bargain" sign. It's small and has "25 cents" printed on it. What could be only 25 cents? Well, it was a plastic container full of broken chocolate nut bars (generic Oh Henry). A full container. Probably 8 chocolate bars worth. Then I look beside and there's a whole section dedicated to 25 cent candy. I bought a pack of fuzzy peaches and a pack of chocolate crips Nascar racing cars. Baffled by my luck, I had to make sure everything in sight was covered. This was an amazing zone I had gotten myself into, probably never to be seen again. Across the wide aisle was a pack of Maynards candy for $1.99. 16 small packages for only $2. It's not 25 cents, but it's sure cheap. Those things would cost you $16 at a convenience store. I just can't beat that. Any stories? Thanks.  more
