Open Question: Has windpower been exposed as a hoax?
It appears that another potential scam has been revealed. "In May 2008, a report from Cambridge Energy Research Associates warned that an over-reliance on offshore wind farms to meet European renewable energy targets would further create supply problems and drive up investor costs. No taxpayer respite there. But worse news was to come. In June [2008], the most in-depth independent assessment yet of Britain's expanding wind turbine industry was published. In the journal Energy Policy, gas turbine expert Jim Oswald and his co-authors came up with a series of damning conclusions: not only is wind power far more expensive and unreliable than previously thought, it cannot avoid using high levels of natural gas, which not only will increase costs but will also mean far less of a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions than has been claimed. Oswald's report highlights the key issue of load factor, the actual power generated compared to the theoretical maximum, and how critical it is to the viability of the wind power industry. In 2006, according to U.K. government statistics, the average load factor for wind turbines across the U.K. was 27.4 percent. Thus a typical 2 megawatt turbine actually produced only 0.54 MW of power on an average day. The worst performing U.K. turbine had a load factor of just 7 percent. These figures reflect a poor return on investment. But this poor return is often obscured by the subsidy system that allows turbine operators and supporters to claim they can make a profit even when turbines operate at a very low load factors. So what’s the bottom line? British consumers are paying twice over for their electricity, funding its means of production, and paying for its use as end users." http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=29616 moreOpen Question: Does anyone else think the same as me?
I am sitting watching the news, Gordon Brown sayin about British police will interview the terror suspects in the mumbai bombings. Am I the only one that thinks we should start taking more care of things back home than jaunting all over the world trying to sort everyone elses problems out? I'm not suggesting we ignore the rest of the world, but it just seems what ever is going on in the world, we're THERE... Stranded - I understand that point, but that was just the icing on the cake. I mean whatever happens in the world, we always seem to have to poke our nose in. There are more than enough problems in the UK which our government seem incapable of sorting out. Or am I just being fussy? lol I did state I don't think we should stop helping completely. I just think that we spend TOO much time sorting the world, forgetting ENGLAND. moreOpen Question: pls can one English native speaker help me here?

The Murder File I Chapter 1 Get away from me! 11:57 P.M. 11-5-2010 At around midnight in the big city, they yell from bullets can really distract a guy. Even though the city, Telecon, has the world’s greatest police force, gangsters will try and fail. But today the bullets were louder. George Bond happened to be really distracted! He had learned about what do to if someone did invade his house: He would go to his bedroom and grab his pistol. If more then three or four invaded, in his attic he kept a shotgun. Then all of a sudden like a plane running right by you his door nearly exploded. Men in black suits came in and started shooting bullets everywhere. George saw about seven so he ran up to his attic, only to find more men! One grabbed his arm and pulled him forward. The man’s face was pale, like a dead man’s. He kicked his coconuts and ran back to his room. Even more were there! The house was infected with this disease! “ Get away from me!” He screeched. Then all of a sudden out of the swarm of bullets got his leg and another in his arm. Out of pain and fear, plus blood loss he was knocked out! He was never heard of again! Chapter 2 Race against the Force 11:12 P.M. 11-12-2010 Ever noticed that a couple glasses of wine are like a couple of mosquito bites? Once you start to scratch a bite, the burning and itching starts to happen. Well, Ben Brady, detective for Telecon was no deferent. He had just come to the restaurant to look over some notes about last weeks kidnapping and possible murder. He had heard about it on the news while he was at his house. He had questioned some neighbors the day later and came up with three notes: The men were pale like zombies or men with colds They used police handguns and cars and other weapons They were heading for the border of the next state, Washington Ben Brady looked down at his 9mm handgun. Nobody knew he had it so; he at a snail's pace reloaded it. Then all of a sudden an alarm went off. Police cars surrounded the area. He hid the handgun; of what he thought triggered the alarm. As he turned around a zombie looking man came in with an assault rifle. He started killing innocent children and parents. Ben Brady fired his handgun pack hitting two times out of two. The bizarre man turned and looked at Ben. Ben popped another shot and blew the man’s head off. Then all of a sudden, south of nowhere men in ballistic shields compressed this hellish place, flouting the windows. Ben Brady again crooked in an angle and popped three bullets. As the third one slammed into a zombie, he was grabbed from behind. Another group of zombies had managed to get inside. He had face gang members before, even stopped an American Gang meeting and also sabotaged a Gang and Terrorist Nuclear Missile sale. Then all of a sudden as Ben looked back at all of his memories of fighting to protect the planet, an AK-47 assault rifle blasted everywhere. Brady dove under a table as glasses exploded. He took out the guns magazine and replaced it with another one, full of bullets. He got up and fired thrice. The zombie monster swaggered up and fired a the rest of his clip. Brady watched the zombie with his gun. Then another wave of zombies compressed the entire building firing bullets everywhere. Ben choose to jump over to the bartenders side of the bar. Surprisingly, a shotgun with ten shells was right under the bar, in case of a fight. He grabbed it and loaded it up quickly and fired at zombie monsters and started blowing heads off. Finally after blowing about twelve heads off with those ten shells he was now out of any hope. He started clubbing zombies with his shotgun but it had little effect. The zombies now grabbed at him and started putting sleeping injections into his body. Then a whole bunch of shotguns and pistols were fired. He couldn't tell if police officers were helping or if he was being executed. More injections were put into his skin. Finally, a swarm of bullets it the zombies around him and clouded up his vision. He tried to round up his strength into is feet and did a roundhouse kick. A bullet then smothered his torso in blood and another one on his arm mimicked. He tried to draw his gun and ended up scratching at his wound. Another bullet hit his leg and he blacked out completely. Chapter 3 British Zombies 8:00 P.M. 11-14-2010 Brady thrust his eyelids open to see he was in some sort of dark woods you see in those cheesy scary movies. But, this is not a cheesy horror movie, but a cheesy horror book about a young detective who faces zombies and shoots them. He also has to find who killed the victim. Ben not knowing what happened to him was lucky to find a green apple and a Tommy Gun right beside him. He took a gigantic mouthful of the apple and found it sweet. Then he though “ How can I of all people in this world be lucky to find a gun and food.” Then it hit him, literally! Remember the little boy from the movie "Damien: Omen 2" Well i recently read this.. Further to my posted reply, I've copied & pasted an October 16, 2007 British news article re Taylor: Former Lawyer & Actor Guilty of Vicar Killing No logic behind vicar killing Jonathan Scott Taylor, 45, of Cardiff, is to be detained indefinitely after pleading guilty to killing a vicar on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Taylor repeatedly stabbed Father Paul Bennett on 14 March in the grounds of the town's St Fagan's Church, Trecynon. Father Bennett, 59, a married father-of-two, was attacked yards from the church in front of his wife. A judge at Cardiff Crown Court said Taylor was guilty of inhuman savagery. His Honour Nicholas Cooke QC told him: "I'm sentencing you for a brutal killing of a wholly innocent man in an act of inhuman savagery. "It was a killing as cruel as is possible to contemplate." Taylor will be detained at Ashworth Special Hospital, a high security psychiatric unit in Merseyside. John Jenkins QC, prosecuting, told the court Father Bennett was attacked within two minutes of stepping outside to put the rubbish out. "It is apparent he immediately ran away from the direction of the front door in the direction of the gate that leads to the churchyard," he said. "He probably did that to protect his family. His son Nigel, who was in the living room, saw his father running that way with the defendant in pursuit." "The defendant stabbed him in the back while he was trying to run away. He had six stab wounds in his back." Hearing screams, Father Bennett's wife, Georgina, went outside to see her husband lying on the ground. As she tried to pull Taylor away, he stabbed the vicar forcibly through the heart. The court heard that she then went back inside to dial 999 and Evans sat on a bench. "I stabbed him through the heart, I stabbed him through the eye" Taylor talking to Father Bennett's wife Mr Jenkins said that when she came back out of the house with a kitchen knife, Taylor told her to go back inside as he did not want to hurt her or her son. "I've done what I had to do," he told her. The hearing was told that Taylor then scattered 10 CDs on the driveway, saying: "It's on there, he wouldn't listen, it's all on the tapes." He then started swearing and speaking of God and the devil, telling Mrs Bennett he had spoken to her husband previously. "He also spoke to her of the attack, saying, 'I stabbed him through the heart, I stabbed him through the eye'," the prosecution continued. "In a gloating voice, he said: 'You have to forgive me now'." When police arrived at the scene at 1450 GMT on 14 March, Taylor was calmly sitting on a gravestone and Father Bennett was dead. When he was arrested outside the church, Taylor became elated about what he had done. He told the officers: "This is going to go national. He's been telling lies. It's all on my discs." Taylor was initially charged with murder, but his plea of manslaughter was accepted after three doctors presented reports to the court confirming Evans was a deluded paranoid schizophrenic. The court heard he was obsessed with God and the devil and fixated with religion and knives. In the last two years Taylor was a subscriber and contributor to satanic websites using the pseudonym Jack Blade where he declared: "I am Satan." Taylor had not been through the mental health system, the hearing was told, but had experienced "personal difficulties" forcing him to leave his profession as a lawyer in 2005. Taylor had previously achieved a measure of fame as an actor in several movies and the BBC soap Triangle, subsequently retiring from acting in 1988. After his arrest, he made it clear to police he had been obsessed with killing the vicar for some time, although it is unclear why. Father Bennett's family believe the two had never previously met. A popular vicar, who had three churches under his stewardship, Paul Bennett was described as being at the "very centre of his community". I was wondering if this is true, I am shocked. moreResolved Question: With Millions of illegal Immigrants in the UK, is it Better They Remain as illegal?
The plan for an Amnesty. To reward criminals who have broken many British Law's with citizenship. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1088726/Immigration-Minister-brands-Boris-Johnson-naive-nincompoop-suggesting-illegal-immigrant-amnesty.html Does the British public really want such selfish people with no respect for the law to become citizens. More difficult to take up illegal work / illegal accomodation as they are not needed. "The Grinch" - have you never been to other EU countries, Germany, Prague, ? Look at there demographics. If It Really Was Jesus' Tomb– 1. Why don’t Cameron and Jacobovici cite scholars who disagree with their conclusions? For example, i***6, when the British Broadcasting Corp. aired a short documentary on the same subject, archaeologists challenged the claims. In fact, the vast majority of archaeologists dispute their claim. 2. Since the custom was to bury the dead in their home town, why would Mary and Joseph’s family tomb be in Jerusalem instead of Nazareth? Middle East researcher and biblical anthropologist Joe Zias states, "It has nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus, he was known as Jesus of Nazareth, not Jesus of Jerusalem, and if the family was wealthy enough to afford a tomb, which they probably weren't, it would have been in Nazareth, not here in Jerusalem.” Zias dismisses Cameron's claims as "dishonest". 3. Why didn’t Jesus’ enemies, the Jewish leaders, expose the tomb? They searched unsuccessfully throughout Jerusalem for any evidence of Jesus’ body, claiming that Jesus’ disciples had stolen it. They hated Jesus enough to want him crucified, and would have been elated to discover his tomb, if it indeed existed. 4. Why didn’t the Romans expose the inscriptions as belonging to Jesus? Roman soldiers controlled the entire city of Jerusalem, and they knew his body was missing from a tomb they had been guarding. 5. Why didn’t contemporary Roman or Jewish historians write about the tomb? Not one single contemporary historian mentions the tomb in question. (Not even Flavius Josephus) 6. Why was the James Ossuary, which has been labeled a forgery, cited by Cameron and Jacobovici as one of the reasons for the tomb‘s validity? CBS News correspondent Mark Philips reports “the archeological establishment has lined up to label this claim as bunk. This is the second time The Discovery Channel has been involved in a disputed claim about an ancient tomb,” reports Phillips. The man at the center of the previous case is now facing trial for forgery.” Ben Witherington, an early Christianity expert who was deeply involved with the James Ossuary, says “there are physical reasons to believe it couldn't have originated in the Talpiot plot.” 7. Why are Jacobovici and Cameron waiting until just prior to Easter to launch both the book and documentary? Amos Kloner, the first archaeologist to examine the site, said the idea fails to hold up by archaeological standards but makes for profitable television. "They just want to get money for it," Kloner said. 8. Why would Jesus’ disciples endure torture for claiming he was resurrected, if they knew it was a hoax? New Testament scholar Darrell Bock asks, “why would Jesus' family or followers bury his bones in a family plot and then turn around and preach that he had been physically raised from the dead?" @kclark. Um, these questions ARE from leading Scholars in this field. I think that they know more than you WHY that tomb is not Jesus' family tomb. Besides, you seem to neglect the fact that, if this tomb is validated as Jesus' then, it would mean that Christianity is built on a lie. So, are you trying to help prove Christianity as a lie? Your answers say that you are. Btw, if you don't know what you're talking about then, maybe you shouldn't answer. LOS ANGELES — Lil Wayne didn’t get a Grammy nomination for “A Milli,” but his total haul was still pretty amazing — eight. Nominations for the prolific and ubiquitous rap MVP, who became pop’s biggest success in 2008 with his top-selling album, “Tha Carter III,” included a coveted album of the year bid. Although the New Orleans rapper — who has been nominated for Grammys before but has never taken home a trophy — was the leading nominee, he wasn’t the only big act to have a big night Wednesday. Following close behind during the Grammys’ first-ever nominations ceremony/ concert combination was Coldplay, with seven nominations. The Chris Martin-led British group’s “Viva La Vida,” one of the year’s best-selling CDs, is in album of the year contention along with Radiohead’s groundbreaking “In Rainbows”; singer-songwriter Ne-Yo’s “Year of the Gentleman”; and Robert Plant’s collaboration with Alison Krauss, “Raising Sand.” Coldplay and Plant & Krauss were also nominated in the coveted record of the year category for the respective songs “Viva La Vida” and “Please Read the Letter.” Other record of the year nominees were British songstress Leona Lewis for “Bleeding Love”; another British newcomer, Adele, for “Chasing Pavements”; and M.I.A. for her breakthrough hit, “Paper Planes.” Some surprising omissions: Katy Perry, who had one of the year’s biggest hits with “I Kissed a Girl,” was shut out of the top categories, including record of the year and best new artist. Still, she was excited about her nomination for female pop vocal performance: “I feel very grateful to be recognized by an institution of such iconic musical history. I can’t believe it, but this year I won’t be watching the Grammys in my jammies!” she said in a statement. Metallica got three nominations, but their huge comeback record “Death Magnetic” didn’t get a nod for album of the year despite being a top seller in 2008. Nominations were announced in a new format this year, with an hourlong CBS concert special that featured a brisk procession of performers and LL Cool J and Taylor Swift as hosts. Though she hosted and performed, Swift, last year’s best new artist nominee, was shut out completely. The 18-year-old country artist has had a sensational year thanks to the continued success of her 2006 self-titled debut album and her latest top-selling CD, “Fearless.” While neither was eligible for consideration, her recent singles were. While “Tha Carter III” was not regarded by critics as his greatest CD, it was the album that made the highly regarded rapper — who has been on the scene for more than a decade — a certified superstar, thanks to massive hits like “Lollipop” and “A Milli.” Lil Wayne not only rapped on his own hits but seemed to be on just about every urban act’s record, and that was reflected in his multiple nominations, some of which were for collaborations. “Tha Carter III” was the only record this year to sell 1 million copies in its first week and is the year’s top seller with 2.7 million copies sold. Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” its first album in three years, was also a huge hit; it has sold 1.9 million copies to date. Plant linked up with Grammy darling and bluegrass artist Krauss for a CD that pushed both in different musical directions, while Ne-Yo, who has produced several smashes for other artists, had success with “Year of the Gentleman.” “When I was putting it together, I was trying to do something that everybody could get into, as opposed to just my pop and R&B core group,” Ne-Yo, who got six nominations, said after the ceremony. “I was trying to do something that the world could enjoy and I think that the Grammy people paid attention to that.” Also nominated were The Jonas Brothers for the best new artist category. While they have already released two CDs, their latest, “A Little Bit Longer,” was their biggest yet in their breakthrough year. The teen sensations join Duffy and Adele, both singers with a soul bent; singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan; and breakout country act Lady Antebellum. Sullivan, who has drawn comparisons to Lauryn Hill with her hit “I Need You Bad,” had a stellar night, with five nominations. Other multiple nominees included Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West, who had six each; Krauss, who has numerous Grammy wins, got five nominations. Another Grammy favorite, John Mayer, netted five as well, while Jennifer Hudson got four, including best R&B album for her self-titled CD. The Recording Academy typically has announced nominations like most top awards shows, during a morning news conference. But in an era where awards shows are as commonplace as reality shows, even the top-tier events are finding it hard to stand out. So they put on the prime-time event, included performances from past Grammy winners such as Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and the Foo Fighters. Held at the Nokia Theatre, the show also celebrated the Saturday opening of the new Grammy Museum next do uh, it is my homework.. to hear other peoples reactions... i already wrote mine... i need 5-7 sentences because thats how long i need the reactions. moreOpen Question: TV says "The British Challenger Tank" is virtually invincible?

Suicide on TV condemned in Britain By GREGORY KATZ, Associated Press Writer Gregory Katz, Associated Press Writer – 15 mins ago LONDON – The scene is difficult to watch, even for viewers inured to the subject of dying by a steady diet of violent Hollywood and television fare. Craig Ewert, a former computer scientist from Chicago, is shown lying in bed with his wife at his side while he takes barbiturates. He asks for a glass of apple juice to mask the bad taste and help him swallow. Then he uses his teeth to turn off his ventilator — and dies on camera. Britain's obsession with reality television reached new heights — or depths — Wednesday night with the broadcast of the assisted suicide of the 59-year-old terminally ill American at a Swiss clinic. Showing the final moment of death had long been a final taboo, even for no-holds-barred British TV, where sex and violence are common, and the broadcast unleashed debate on an issue that strongly divides public opinion. The Irish Republic does not exist today, it would be akin to calling Zimbabwe = Rhodesia, Sri Lanka = Ceylon or Bangladesh = East Pakistan! The Irish Republic existed from 1919 to 1922....today you can say either Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. Seriously you would think that journalists of all people would know that, is it simply a lack of journalistic education and training in the UK or is it something more sinister, i.e: a latent anti-Irish sentiment? You can also say Eire but generally this Irish language word for Ireland is only used when speaking in the Irish language, I don't see Sky News or The Telegraph launching Irish language versions...lol MrsBerwick, it is exactly as though one was calling Sri Lanka = Ceylon etc etc, these are former names of countries not the correct current names. Journalists should know that. Em, Jude....no, it doesn't mean exactly the same thing. moreResolved Question: 2012 Olympics: Australians hire a Hoodie ?
We read that the Australian Sporting Commission are smarting so much from their Beijing Olympic drubbing by the Brits (19 gold medals to the Brits, 14 to the Aussies), that they have hired an actor, and produced a film clip of a supposedly British Hoodie to taunt Australians into action. The (British) Hoodie taunts... "So you think you got talent, well let me tell you something. No chance, not over here in our fair green land... You won't win nothing Aussie, nothing, zilch" Is this an offensive piece of stereotyping by the Australians ? or all good clean sporting taunting fun ? We speak the same language so i really don't see the need to remake them. I find it annoying because apart from the Office i don't think they've made a success of a single British show. We've had Spaced, Life on Mars, Red Dwarf and now news of Gavin and Stacey being re-made. Why? Am i missing something? American tv shows have success this side of the atlantic and we understand the humour perfectly well. So why the need to try make an American version of every successful British show? I just don't see the point! Archie if the originals were so bad then why bother buying the format in the first place? I think we've proved that America doesn't make them better which is why so many remake's have failed! Archie, you realy haven't got a clue about any of the shows we're talking about have you? So you can't really make that judgement. moreResolved Question: What college should I apply?

per week, to make things better in UK, in these times of economic hardship? Should we continue to spend this obscene amount of money on a War, that everybody agrees was a mistake from the very start, entered into on false intelligence, in collaboration with a dangerously deranged, extremist and his corrupt Cadre of Power crazed Oil Pirates and out of control Warmongers ! A War that has seriously compromised our International credibility and Integrity, beyond reparation in some cases, and made us Targets for reprisal attacks. Our own Government, are blatantly abusing their Powers, to create a State of Civil oppression, and introducing "Big Brother" style Policing policies, directed at its own populace, with the direct result of creating a breeding ground for religious extremism, and ethnic tensions, towards our Moslem Communitiy. New Labour, are doing exactly the same thing to British Muslims, as Nazi Germany did to its Jewish Population in the 1930s. And are we just going to sit back, and swallow the Propoganda, watching while our Government creates a convenient Scapegoat for all our frustrations, out of the easiest minority? If British Moslems protest against this oppression, they are just labelled as Extremists by the appallingly biased News Agencies, whipping up Public mistrust even more! Are we going to let ourselves be manipulated by these Charlatans? Are we going to let ourselves be led, unblinking, into what promises to be one of the darkest periods of our History? Well, it certainly looks like it. The parallels between Britain today, and Germany 70 years ago, are right under our noses, and only our carefully manipulated sense of National Identity, stops us realising it. We need to stop this railroading of our Nation right now, before History shows us to be the new Nazi Nation that we are rapidly becoming. Agree, or not? "Naked briton detained after swimming in Imperial Palace moat" british tourists urinates in Freedom Square in Riga (Latvia) which is an important place for the people of the country as it represents freedom. no wonder there are articles as... "British 'world's worst tourists'" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2137729.stm) here's something to laugh about.... A British tourist in Moscow found himself needing to take a leak something terrible. After a long search he just couldn't find anyplace to relieve himself. So he went down one of the side streets to take care of business. Before he could even get unzipped a Moscow police officer showed up. "Hey, what are you doing? "he asked. "I gotta pee, man." "You can't pee here. Look, follow me." The police officer led him to a beautiful garden with lots of grass, pretty flowers, and manicured hedges. "Here," said the cop, "whiz away." The British tourist shrugs, turns, unzips, and starts right on the flowers. "Ahhh. Whew. Thanks. This is very nice of you. Is this Russian courtesy?" "No. This is the British Embassy." and if someone will dare to do anything like that in front of any monuments in Britain that is important for british people? what will then happen???????? so theoretically he was urinating in his own country... If that person?
is ineligible, as 0bama admits he is (because he himself admitted he was born with British citizenship on factcheck, thereby not natural born, which is different than being just a US Citizen, it's an exceptional undivided allegiance at birth definition spelled out by the USC)... since the president is ineligible, it nullifies the contract. Any decision, act, treaty he makes is invalid and will be challengd. The Constitution, the "Contract" is null and void, it's all that ties our nation-states together as the "United" States. Any state can secede, and some may without legal consequence. If the contract is void, so is the union, it simply ceases to exist--as unimaginable as that seems, it's just words on paper that tie our states together. Any treaty, debt, owing understanding internationally between any country and the "United" States can be challenged, because its leader is not valid, the Union is not valid. He's vulnerable to blackmail. He can be challenged as "not president" at any turn, and he will be as many are promising, and then all of his records can be subpoenaed in any criminal cases. Here's a real Harvard Constitutional Lawyer who wrote an article in the large newspaper The Philadelphia Bulletin, about the Constitutional Crisis which 0bama imposes on the nation. http://www.thebulletin.us/site/news.cfm?newsid=20210273 He says that if you think 0bama bullying his way into the White House (before he has his secret police and civilian army at his command to control the populous) is the end of the crisis, it's just not true. Yes, 0bama is a fake. That's why he won't release his abysmal transcripts and why he's never written a single scholarly article in his life. The USC DOES preclude dual citizenships... because the only exceptions were spelled out for those US Citizens with dual citizenships at the time of its ratification, being eligible for POTUS. If the exception were not spelled out, there would be vaguery, but it is spelled out. moreResolved Question: McCanns: new Madeleine picture released for this Christmas?
We read that Kate and Gerry McCann have released another picture of Madeleine to coincide with Christmas. The McCanns believe that a new picture of Madeleine could play a vital role in the search for her. Unlike the previous million photo's of Madeleine this unique picture shows clearly her distinctive right eye where the pupil runs into the blue-green iris. Does the parents periodically releasing new photo's of Madeleine help the public identify her bearing in mind that if she is still alive, she will be 18 months older than when she disapeared ? Or are the releases purely aimed at getting the story back in the news having sued half the British press ? Source: http://www.euroweeklynews.com/news/12867.html moreVoting Question: Part 2..Why this pervasive dark mutterings of hopelessness of a future black Prime Minister in Britain?
Greg Dyke, a scion of the true Brit, an incorrigible Establishment hand and former honcho of BBC once indicted the world famous broadcasting station of being hideously white. Dyke forgot to mention also that the corporation had gone Asian. In the BBC, blacks are invisible as newsreaders and presenters. They are unwanted as producers, reporters and editors of news. But blacks are in the backroom as cooks in the canteen, cleaners and delivery ‘boys’. Few miles from BBC’s White City’s head office is the House of Commons. If BBC is hideously white, the British parliament is obscenely more so and shamelessly racist and patriarchal. British parliament is a treacherous, white dominated enclave. Of the 600 MPs, only 15 are non white. Permit me to say that I hate the term ethnic minority.the higher you peep into its greasy hierarchical pole, the whiter it becomes. There are no Collin Powells in the British Army. No Condoleezza Rice in its Foreign Service. Another English peculiar mess! For the past decade the Sunday Times has not featured a single black millionaire in its April Rich List edition. Here there is no P-Diddy, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Samuel L Jackson, Jay-Zee and Stevie Wonder. There is dearth of black faces in business, politics, law, medicine, pharmacy, entertainment, film and banking. There is no quickening in British soul. It is not a place where an area boy can emerge as head of the London Underground in 20 years. But in America an area boy with gut could remake himself and head the New York Metro in 20 years. Britain is a gradualist and deeply racist society with deeply entrenched consciousness of Europeanism and hierarchy rather than assimilation and oneness. Here you are still judge by the colour of your skin for higher posts. When America embraces unifying patriotism, Britain celebrates fragmented nationalism. Perceived as outsiders, millions of non white British people still find comfort in their countries of origin. This loyalty has been tested in cricket and football matches. For instance, British born and bred Jamaicans are naturally disposed to support their home cricket team when pitted against the British team. The same sentiment resides in British born Pakistani,s when they meets the England Criket team. The Norman Tebitt’s prognosis of immigrant natural bias here finds self fulfilment! Can you still see Englishman’s peculiar mess? For blacks, Britain is not a place of the big dream. General Collin Powell, former US Secretary of State, once said that he was lucky that the ship that transplanted his great, great, grand parents did not drop anchor in Liverpool. His prescient was right. He must have seen the present state of black British and their backwardness and immobility. For him to have been born here, according to his reckoning, he would have become a bus driver! Unlike America, Britain is not a melting pot. Britain is still European in temper, attitude and projections. Blacks in Britain are still wetbacks on plantation reserve eking out living as office cleaners, bus drivers, parcel couriers, site security officers, cab drivers, hospital porters, rubbish clearers, boiler technicians, night train cleaners, receptionists, janitors, akiri ja number- night traffic warders, CCTV manipulators, hairdressers, barbers, doormen and nightclub in-toilet serviette dispensers. The City where the high flying jobs are aplenty are reserved for the well heeled, well connected, well jawed spoilt brats using social network and class to full advantage. It is no secret that the English have difficulty believing that black people can be clever, intelligent, middle class and patriotic. They have given up hope of ever seeing our Shakespeare, Beethoven and Thomas Addison. moreResolved Question: Official - Life in the UK has become 'lonelier' - what can be done?
This is one of those research stories that stated the eye-bleedingly obvious:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7755641.stm So, life is lonelier. Official. I could have pointed that out without the 'research' in the article. Is there anywhere outside of rural areas, or retiree type backwaters where we say hello to our neighbours or local workers? I for one would love to chat to a postman - if I could find one who will converse with me in my native language (I am being serious). Does anyone have a spare set of keys to 'mind' your house when you are away? What happened to the neighbours who brought round some fresh brambles/apples from their garden in Autumn? When was the last time you helped/had help from a neighbour? Do you even know who your neighbours are? A sense of community. I do not know what these words mean anymore. A sense of community would no doubt have helped Baby P and the victims of the 'British Fritzl'. I concur that UK has become so worryingly detached in terms of having a 'community', that I feel this word no longer applies in the British Language. Why is this though? Crime? Immigration? Changes in values over the years? Lack of milkmen? Leah M:- thanks for your answer, and a good point, but (and NO offense intended) - yours is exactly the type of London attitude I am desperate to get away from (hopefully next year). There is a significant difference in being a 'nosy neighbour' and being a friendly one. Harry R:- I have to say, your slightly patronising response manages to bypass what I was really getting at. I am glad you did history at school. Now, did I ever allude to the fact crime was lower, life was safer, people were more innocent in previous decades? No. I am merely asking why friendliness and care in our communities has all but diminished. In addition, I used the term 'Baby P' - erm, any other way to refer to the child? I used 'British Fritzl' as a less laborious way to describe 'the man who raped his two daughters over a 25 year period'. I was not aiming my question at crime specifically. moreVoting Question: why always these things happen in india?
Two Mumbai terrorists were from Bradford, Leeds Sun, Nov 30 03:25 PM London, Nov.30 (ANI): At least two of the terrorists who attacked Mumbai earlier this week hailed from Bradford or Leeds and monitored reports of their murderous spree on sites, including the BBC. According to the Sun, the gang looked for web updates and live footage on the net to help them prolong their three-day rampage that has left at least 195 dead and 295 injured. It was further reported that at least five BlackBerry handsets were used for conversations, instructions and to surf British websites. Key figures in the gang equipped themselves with BlackBerrys to monitor British news if the power was cut to televisions. "There was a lot of content from the English media - not just in London but Urdu and Arabic sites that are very strong in the north of England. We have started analysis on this and will pass it on to Scotland Yard," a senior National Security Guard officer was quoted, as saying. Mumbai's chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said two Britons were involved. An army source said last night: "British passports were found on two terrorist bodies - young men aged 25-30. "It's possible that they picked them up as they rampaged through the hotel rooms, but security forces and police are investigating the possibility that they were British citizens from Pakistani families. Other terrorists appeared to have connections with Mauritius. All those involved so far are linked to Pakistan," he said. Meanwhile British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has reportedly spoken with his Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh. Brown also warned that it was "too early" to reach any conclusions about British involvement. Bradford West MP Marsha Singh said he was "appalled" by reports that British Asians from the city could be involved. He told The Sun: "I'm hoping it is wrong. I've spoken to Muslims in Bradford and they are disgusted as well. The community as a whole is gutted by this." Last night a Foreign Office source insisted there was "no evidence" of British involvement.
