Voting Question: Why do some colleges' basketball uniforms have a patch of the American flag on them?
moreResolved Question: Proofreading a College Essay?
Can someone proofread this? I am aware that my paragraphs are all jacked up. I'm probably going to go add a little more later. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME Contrary to popular belief, I enjoyed my three years of middle school. Don’t get me wrong, I experienced my fair share of awkward moments and could never seem to find a pair of jeans that fit, but I find something strangely appealing about the innocence those years brought. Middle school was mainly a continuation of my elementary years, all full of carefree life. While most girls in the sixth grade begin to experience with makeup or find boyfriends, I was out in the backyard playing capture the flag or organizing a neighborhood basketball game. I was a special girl. I loved school and made good grades. I knew I was different, but it never bothered me. Never didn’t last forever though. Around the end of eighth grade, I all of the sudden began to feel extremely embarrassed about the way I was. There were girls in my grade who had gotten their first kiss or been in a car with a “highschooler”. I had none of those things but for some reason thought it was imperative that I had them. The next year I would be in high school. I felt like I had been running around naked for the past three years. I needed to put some clothes on, and some “cool” ones at that. I somewhere along the line devised a plan to change who I was when I got to high school. What did I have to do to be seen as cool and popular? I had to be liked. Therefore, I was going to be a cheerleader. Of course back then my seemingly innocent intentions of being a cheerleader paralleled to any cliché move about high school. I wanted to be in the movie where the pretty and popular girl was always the cheerleader. I now know that life, and certainly not life in high school, is nothing like a movie. I also know now that you cannot force yourself to be something you’re not. In the meantime, my high school’s cross country coach noticed me around and could see great talent in my long skinny legs. He was very adamant in his efforts to try and convince me to run, but I more than once turned down his offers. The old me would have jumped at the opportunity to run, but the new me was too concerned with being popular, being a cheerleader. Those long skinny legs were too busy doing flips and cartwheels, all in an attempt to chance who I was. My freshman year rolled around and my plan was in action. I was a Junior Varsity cheerleader for my school. Now hidden behind older boyfriends, masks of make up, and a skimpy uniform, I could fool anymore, even myself. No one had to know how smart I really was or that I still had a Pokemon card collection under my bed. After a while, even I forgot how special I was. I had officially overcome the nerdy sixth grade that I used to be. I began to like what I thought people saw me as. Eventually, my reputation began to deteriorate. I not only had overcome my nerdy sixth grade days, but had forgotten them as well. I didn’t know who I was anymore. Many days people made me feel like I was not good enough. There was a reason God gave me my legs, and it was not to do flips. It turns out I wasn’t cut out to handle the consequences of my new “plan”. My grades declined. I spent less time with my family and my parents began to notice a change. I became less involved with my church and no longer had any real desire to strengthen my relationship with God. Everything I loved about the old me was gone. By the end of my sophomore season as a varsity cheerleader, I had taken all that I could. I wanted to be the “old me” again. To start, I began to do things the “old me” liked. I went out on a limb for the “new me” and participated in the region science fair. I went on to place third in the Georgia Science Fair. When that spring rolled around, I was ready to get as far away from cheerleading as possible. I decided to try pole vaulting. I wasn’t great, but I wasn’t awful either. In fact, just those few local meets I placed in gave me enough confidence to try what it was that I really wanted to do. The first day of my junior year, I came back alive. This was my first day of cross country practice. I fell in love. Here I was, for the first time doing something that not only had a desire for, but had a gift for. Running opened up a whole new door in my life. Running gave me that happiness I felt after a sixth grade basketball game. This happiness gave me the confidence I used to have so much of. Being on the cross country course was the first place I found myself not having to force anything, I just had to move. Just like everything in life should be, it just came natural. But it was also just like the way a lot of things in life have to be, they take effort. Through everything in running, I felt a great sense of freedom. It was the first thing I learned how to control. When I wanted to be faster, I just pushed a little harder. When I want something, I become very determined to get When I want something, I become very determined to get it. Running reinforced my determination. Eventually these lessons transferred to other places; like church, my family, and schoolwork. I learned how to accomplish what is important to me. Running helped me to become goal-oriented to say the least. Sometimes when I think I can’t finish something in life, I look back to a previous times I’ve ran and realize that I had enough willpower to finish a race. This past fall, I looked back for the first time. After I earned the Top 11 All Time spot on my school record, I looked back and saw how far I’d come. Also in my junior I went on to earn a letter in swimming and another in track. I had finally restored my confidence, and there was nothing artificial about it. I overcame the pressures of popularity to do what was right. Running has taught me life long lessons. I don’t know where I would be today if I had not made a change. I do know that I would probably still be unhappy, and probabl TO MY 2 RESPONDERS- THANK YOU! Especially Pixel, that was SUCH a big help. I really appreciate you taking the time to proofread that. My friend is boycotting sports and when I asked why he talked about the energy that is used to light the stadiums and arena, the non-renewable materials used to build the stadiums, the fact that teams travel constantly by plane, contributing to global warming. How can I argue with that? It's senseless to use all those lights rather than just play basketball and hockey games outside, or play baseball and football games during the day so there is natural sunlight, rather than waste so much energy with the lights and the giant scoreboards, etc. not to mention all the co2 from the massive amount of traffic that these things bring and the teams refuse to wear fair-trade cotton uniforms. Is there a better way to get high school, college, and pro sports to go green, or do we have to boycott them and cause them financial hardship for them to change? It's frustrating that these people refuse to make simple changes on their own to benefit the world. moreResolved Question: Which college has the best looking uniforms for basketball?

Here's my essay. My teacher said "chunk out about 1/3 of the info and correctly cite the rest" and "put it all in the required format" I dont kno wat format she is talking about. Michael Jordan was the greatest and most well-known professional basketball player world-wide but as a true admirer have you ever concentrated on the shoes he wear as he plays a championship winning game? Does the sneakers he wear aid him in his amazing dunks or are they as regular as the shoes you wear on a everyday basis? Many may believe the shoes assist the player in portraying his or her talents while playing the game of basketball. It is believe certain sneakers help players maintain grip on a slippery court while others are comfortable and durable throughout many games. Individuals have different opinions on what is an important characteristic for a sneaker to possess to aid the basketball players to playing a championship winning game as well as exemplifying each player’s talents. The shoe industry has expanded over a century of years as well as raised prices to promote different products that will satisfy every individuals needs in a basketball shoe. In the year of 1891, Dr. James Naismith invented the game of basketball which was played with soccer balls and peach baskets. A year later, the first basketball shoes designed by George Watkinson were made by Colchester Rubber Company with five inch high tops, soles patterned with turkey feather and hardened with gum rubber, brown heavy duck fabric that covers the upper surface of the foot, and the company‘s signature symbol, but coincidentally the rubber company was located fifty miles from where Naismith also developed the initial thirteen rules of basketball. The shoes were made in two styles high tops, used by players for ankle support while low tops were used for comfortable ease. The limited variety types of basketball shoes could not aid basketball players significantly in the many areas needed, such as traction, durability, comfort to succeed and exemplify their finest talents and appearance throughout the entirety of a game. Twenty-five years later, Converse launched its “All Stars” in natural brown colors and trimmed in black as its first basketball shoe since the sport of basketball was becoming so popular. Years later in the 1920’s, the Converse Rubber Corporation began producing the sneakers in black fabrics and leather styles. Many believed “All Star was to be the first mass produced basketball shoe in North America” (chucksconnection.com), but sales moved slowly at the start of production until Chuck Taylor joined the Converse sales distribution which caused sales to rapidly increase. Taylor’s success in promoting the shoe and assisting in making significant changes to the “All Stars”, Converse added his name to the ankle patch and renamed the sneaker to Converse “Chuck Taylor” All Stars during the year of 1932. Converse began expanding the styles of the Chuck Taylor All Stars and began producing all white version of the shoes as while as the original black sneakers, which basketball players began wearing either the black or new white style and also dying the sneakers to match the color of their uniforms “sending sales off the charts” (hoopsvibe.com). The all white version of the sneakers assisted the United States basketball team to earning the Gold medal during the first game of basketball played at the Olympics in 1936 where the entire team wore Converse All Stars. The team remained wearing the sneakers throughout every game played during the Olympics and won the gold medal every time up to 1968. Over the years of the 1930’s to the 1950’s almost every high school, college, and professional college basketball player male and female were “Chucks“. A decade later in the 1960’s team colors was produced to match basketball players’ uniforms. Thirty-four years later, almost every basketball player world-wide were dressed in a pair of All Stars making Converse dominant eighty percent of the sneaker industry. As the years past many well-known professional basketball players wore “Chucks” such as Pete Mavarich, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Julius Erving. The All Stars were worn by more leading professional basketball teams than any other sneaker in the market for fifty years. Converse “Chuck Taylor” All Stars listed the following reasons their shoe was better than any other basketball shoe: Lightweight for speed. Foot Form Last for fit, comfort and support. Shock absorbing full length sponge insole and arch cushion. “Peg-top” upper on high shoe gives extra support without binding ankle. Oxford features the new angle-cut high front quarter design for snug instep support. Loose lined and ventilated army duck uppers for cool comfort. Under-stitched web tape backstay for extra strength. Rugged protective toe guard. Permanent-set eyelets. Double sole binding for flexible strength. Alright, I'm thinking this winter is the time for me to get back into the video game market. Problem is, I'm not sure if I should get an Xbox, a PS3 or a Wii. The following facts might help: - I'm 26. - The last game system I owned was a Super Nintendo, circa 1998. - I had an edition of Madden for my PC in the early part of this decade and played plenty of Triple Play, NBA Live, Tiger Woods and NHL on my computer when I was in or just out of college. - My favorite games of all-time are RBI Baseball and RBI 2 on the good ol' NES. It was to the point where I can still recite some 1989 MLB statistics off the top of my head. - I want to play sports games because I worked a lot this summer and my knowledge of "who's good" and "who's playing where" took a major hit. Getting games with regularly updated rosters for officially licensed games is a plus because I can have some fun and learn about teams at the same time. - I'd really like to get a good baseball sim and get back on the Madden bandwagon (I had Madden for the PC in college but was sorely disappointed with the gap between difficulty levels). I also am thinking a college basketball game would be cool and/or a good golf sim. - I like full-season modes and I really dig games that give a nod to history, particularly historical stadia. - I've missed a couple generations of games, so I'm not looking for games that are really complicated. - I don't care about puzzle or shoot-'em-up games, so you can leave your Final Fantasies at home. - Good, realistic graphics and animations with smooth motions are important to me, as are details like uniform and stadium art. I'm leaning towards the PS3 because I understand it has the best graphics and more of the sim-type games than the Wii. What do y'all think, though? And would you have any game suggestions? moreVoting Question: How can I grow up and get over this?
For some reason I can't completely stop being jealous of other woman in the world. I know I'm not bad looking, and I know my boyfriend adores me. He and I have been together for over a year, and he has pretty much said that he wants to marry me, and he tells me I'm beautiful everyday and let's me know how much he loves me, everyday. We share one big interest and that is football. Whether it be college or NFL. As far as college football goes, and college basketball even, we never miss a home game at Youngstown State. We both go there, and live really close to campus. I always get excited for the games and dress accordingly to look good and in YSU gear to root for our team, but once we get there and the games start, I feel completely worthless because the cheerleaders perform right below our student section and we ALWAYS have to sit in the student section because we are given student tickets for free. I hate it. His friends who some are single, and some are not, always comment on them. Last year they said it wasn't fair because all of the ugly cheerleaders were on our side and the hot ones were on the other side, and my boyfriend agreed. This left me mortified because in my head some of them, a lot of them are fit and beautiful, more so than me. I just don't get guys. I want to have a great football season, but I don't want to feel bad about myself just because I'm not in a cheerleader uniform doing skanky tricks instead of actually watching the game! What would you do? moreResolved Question: Ladies, my wife is beautiful, sexy, vibrant, smart, loving, giving, and so afraid and insecure and gone...help
No blame game here...simply arrogantly self-stupid observations by a truly hurting me. I deeply love my wife, but her family hurt, and still hurts her so badly that at 50 she has left her third husband, me, (though she says she is coming back) and I know why she is so messed up, but her inner demons won't even allow us to talk about it. We have good insurance and have been in therapy for a while, but she is so charming she fools the therapist (s). I am not perfect. I have problems. I am a good man. I am strong. I have been hurt and alone in the world like so many others. I am a fool who sees the folly in this world too well at times. I have been loyal and fought great, great battles to save my wife's life physically for over 7 years. Now, I now am powerless to solve my wife's one great illness...a fragile soul. She watched her bio father beat her mother for 2 1/2 years. Her mother left her with an emotionally empty and abusive grandmother for four more years. Her mother and step-father treated her well, but never really the same as her half-siblings. She played basketball and was on the dance team in high school, working to pay for the uniforms, camp fees, and the like. When she married too young, her mother disowned her because the boy was black (I know him. Good guy, problems too though like all of us.) After a few years, my wife divorced him after he began cheating because her expectations were so unrealistically high that she cut him off, like her mother "punished her to teach her a lesson." She became sarcastic, demeaning, disrespectful and stopped the cariños (she's a South-Texas Mèxicaña) in and out of the bed. He has gone on to be an attorney and a junior college president. In her early 20's she's back in South Texas at a university studying, living, having 20 something lovers, mostly naval officers in flight school, while avoiding anything close to responsibility to or for others. ( It's ironic, we lived one building away from each other then and went to the same college at the same time) She had lots of girl friends but was so lonely and hurting inside she quit life and her professional job and moved to Austin in her early thirties. Worked as a state auditor, suffered as she partied away, found God, found husband 2, not a nice guy...but not that bad either...resentfulness, irresponsiblity crept in while pretending to herself to be responsible...cuts him off like #1 and he cheats after she leaves him, and she blames him for everything. Divorce. Along comes me, also divorced from my 1st after a 20 year marriage and 3 kids. This time we live two doors and a stairwell away from each other. I offered to and helped her move a sofa to her apartment with another neighbor. I wanted to get to know her, but thought it would be to creepy to knock on her door and ask her out. One year later she knocks at my door with a petition trying to get the drug dealing kids next to her evicted...I sign...give phone #...next day same kids are threatening her...I rushed over and made kids behave respectful as they move out...scared them (I was a soldier and street urchin in the hood back in the day). It's summer, she's a teacher and beautiful. I'm a teacher and thinks she's cute...we play tennis, hike, bike, fall in love...marry a year and half after I convince her I'm decent...I had to show my credit report, back-ground check, hire mariachi's, learn Spanish better to talk to her older relatives, prove I was tamed Tiger...I'm a bolillo (white-boy) who lived and fought in the tough hispanic streets of south and west San Antonio and raised myself alone literally (dad and mom slipped away one at a time) since I was 14, but who got to go to college (GI Bill) anyway. She was afraid I'd leave her and cheat. I fought to get her. And now I'm fighting to keep her and not be # 3. She's at her parents right now because I'm driving her "crazy" because I want to talk about taking care of our future. I'm an English teacher by choice, a romantic by calling, and one lean, mean earning machine with an MBA who has made some damn lucky investments over the years, am only four years away from a full, paid retirement, and live in a state that is paying for me to attend a great law school part-time (being a soldier and staying alive was good to me)... what a great life...problem is the woman I love always runs away from responsibility...yeah, she ran away from Austin after about 8 years too, and every time she ran she financed it with her retirement money. She is 50, has no money, not enough time to actually earn a retirement from teaching like I have, or earn more in a second career like I hope, and I am willing to (and do) finance independent retirement accounts for her, but she is running away from me because she is insecure and afraid that after law school and some young cutie thang will seduce me away. She is unable, and I mean unable to talk about any real issue honestly, no she is not a liar, just supremely avoidant. I'm rambling forgive me. I worked at bringing her family back together, but I did not know they had isoloated everyone in the world due to some great unknown fear that I think comes out of the past (her family suffered greatly during the Mexican Revolution of the early 1900's...great depravity occurred...war really is hell...my wife's family won't answer their front door, answer the phone until after a message is left, and is flat broke because like her they won't think about the now or the future because of whatever ghosts haunt them from the past...they think I'm crazy because I'm not afraid to negotiate with repairmen, tell street thugs to keep their distance, or because I challenge religious frauds. I can not let the world hurt me. I would have died a long time ago. And, I have three children, and I thought a wife, to shepard. And now she has run away from me for the third time...and every time it is the day I must take my children home after a longish vistitation. And, they love her, she loves them, but she can't love too much or she gets so damn afraid she won't answer the telephone of life and slams the door of love. It's driving me insane. Help! Help! Help! How do I live with a woman who can't love too long without resenting getting loved, or won't think about her future, or won't make love to me anymore even though I'm a giving, faithful lover...a woman who has run away from me because she has been running away from herself her entire adulthood to keep the dad who beat her mom out of her mind, to keep the mom who refused to feed her when she asked at 23 yrs old out of her mind as punishment because she married a black man, who ran away from another man and his children because, because, because, she runs away.... I'm empty I survived incredible evil as a child, endured and still suffer the from the evil of war, lived after my three babies were ripped from me by divorce, fought arrogant and ignorant doctors like hell to keep this woman I cherish alive, but..............I can't fight this demon inside her that is tearing me apart and creating a void in my soul that I think will never go away if she stays away like she has the other two husbands and other lovers before me. I never knew agape love before my first daughter was born. In fact I think my first wife left me because I don't think I could love at all back then. Now, I love my lover and best friend like I'll never be able to love again... She tells me I talk too much. She yells for me to "Stop Yelling!!!" when I whisper I love her after trying to explain to her calmly that...Yes, she really does need to know where the natural gas cut-off valve is in this beautiful house of ours. She tells me I'm crazy as she breaks the beautiful things we have collected during our travels. She has left me because "You are driving me crazy!!! It's your sanity or mine. Why do you have to talk about things? Why can't we just love each other like my folks? We don't need to talk!" She lies about herself to the therapists and to herself. I love her. I'm not cheating. I found my soulmate, but the devil found her first. I'm a teacher of English, forgive my lack of brevity, my sloppy style, my non-proofing, Faulkner -esque stream-of-bullsh*t. As she pleads, I'll stop talking. Ladies, please...how do I make her come back and stay with me until we die together like in the books I must read? moreResolved Question: What WNBA players have worn the uniform number 23?
