I'm in 8th grade... This man is a basketball player who eats, sleeps and breathes the game. This basketball player is a Los Angeles Laker and devoted athlete who goes by the name of Kobe Bean Bryant. Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents Joe and Pam named him after the famous beef, in Kobe, Japan; the idea popped into their head after looking at a restaurant menu. His father, Joe, was a professional basketball player. His career took him to different countries all around the amazing world (answers.com/topic/kobe-bryant). Kobe pretty much grew up in Italy where his father played basketball. You can imagine where he got his inspiration and great interest for basketball from considering his old man wore a jersey. By the time Kobe was three, he was already telling people he was going to participate in the NBA. His favorite player was Magic Johnson, a point guard, in a power forwards body (Basketball: A History of Hoops). Bryant admired his flashy ways and skills. He right then and there in Houston decided that the Lakers were his new favorite professional team. This is why he rightfully refused to join any team besides the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant became really engaged in his father’s basketball career. He rarely, if ever, missed a game. Entertaing fans by shooting some hoops at his father’s games was something this boy loved to do. During the games, he would carefully observe his dad’s moves and then after words, try to mimic them (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant ). Maybe this is how he learned his wicked awesome moves. Traveling to different places, like Europe, Italy, and various locations in the United States of America, had its ups and downs. He practically knew basketball like the back of his hand from experiencing soo many games. Kobe also could speak different languages pretty well. After living a few months in Italy, he was fluent in speaking the language. On the flipside, even though he was an A and B student, Kobe struggled to relate to other classmates. As, a result of being in a different country, Bryant didn’t know much of the slang the scholars used. He would just nod and walk away instead of communicating (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant). This young star’s success quickly progressed. As a junior, he averaged 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. That year he was honored with the Pennsylvania Player of the Year title. In the four years he attended high school he scored 2,883 points! Academics were not about to stall Kobe, after all he did receive outstanding scores on his SAT. An All Star was something Bryant strongly dreamt of becoming (sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3118). After his outstanding year, major colleges from all over were definitely considering him. As shocking as it is, Kobe just decided to go straight into the NBA without college. Kobe was traded with player, Vlade Divac, and then he began to play for the Lakers instead of the Charlotte Hornets (kobebryantlive.com). He was ecstatic, not only was he playing for his favorite team, but he was also excited that there was a handful of talent on the team besides him. The Los Angeles Lakers were convinced that Kobe would help them to success. They figured if Bryant was the son of a previous basketball player he would most likely leave the other rookies in his dust, and the crowds in awe. Kobe had been around basketball his whole life ever since he was a little munchkin. Surely having him on the team could and would only lead to success. There were many highlights in Kobe Bryant’s first season. He was the NBA’s youngest starter in history. He was eighteen years, five months, and five days old. He also set a record of thirty-one points in a rookie game and Kobe won the Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk Contest. He impressed the judges with passing the ball between his legs and throwing down a ferocious, rim-shaking windmill jam, which scored a nearly perfect 49 points. No other Laker had achieved this type of challenge (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobe_Bryant). Kobe’s fist signature shoe line came out this year as well. KB8 is what it became known as. Bryant’s career consists of many other outstanding accomplishments. Like for instance, being a NBA Champion. This was exactly the case from 2000-03. He was rewarded with the NBA’s MVP award this year (2008), as well as two other years in the past. Kobe was an all time scoring champ in the years of 2006-07. This awesomely amazing athlete has been an All Star 10 times! WHOO! He has also been plainly a regular season leader throughout these longgggg years of his career. For 10 consecutive years he has raised the bar for points scored in a season records or amount of points scored in a game. Fantastic is what this youthful dreaming boy has become over the years. Kobe is almost thirty now and still living his dreams. He completed his education; there aren’t any major weaknesses in his basketball skills. He can basically do whatever moreVoting Question: College Admission Chances?

moreResolved Question: Walk-On at the Quarterback position without any high school experience?
Ok, thanks to Michigan I now know that yes you CAN walk on at the QB position. Well, in my case, I go to a Magnet School (high school with HIGH academic standards) so we do not have a football program at all. I really want to play football but so far there have not been any camps around the area I live in or any other alternatives. I have been running and throwing the football a lot and I know for a fact I can go out there and compete (waits for unemployed recruiter to troll). This type of thing stresses me. I am an honor roll student at a difficult school (magnet school) and I have yet to take the SAT (I am in the 1st semester of my Junior year in High School) but on the practice SATs I have scored high. So grades are NOOOOTTTTT one bit of a problem so hold back the rants on that. As for my stress, I REALLY want to play QB at a college level, I mean I would fight Kimbo Slice right now if it guaranteed me earning a shot at the Quarterback position at a division 1A or division 1AA college. I mean Quarterback, no other position. Also, I may get accepted into an Ivy League school, so here are my questions (after I have provided the background information). 1. Will I get an OPPORTUNITY to show D-1A recruits how good I can play and show them some promise or will they say, "sorry, no high school football, no opportunity"? 2. Is it true that at Ivy League schools they do not recruit for football? 3. Is there a case where someone who did not play quarterback in high school ended up playing to on a college (D-1, D-2, or D3) or even NFL level? 4. I am Indian (India), will my race play a factor in me getting to play Quarterback at a Division 1a or Ivy League school? Or even a D-1AA school? 5. What can I do right now to prepare myself to play Quarterback at a D-1A level? I am kinda chubby but I have lost most of my potbelly and I am starting to develop a 6 pack now, the last time (1 year ago) when I ran the 40 yd dash at my cousin's school (I was visiting, unfortunately my stubborn parents will not let me go there) my time was 4.6. As you can see, I am passionate about this. Day and night this thought just haunts my dream, I have come too far in life in order for someone to say no. I used to be the dumbest kid in elementary school according to teachers but after that I made nothing but A's. I did not even know a word in English when I was 11 and the English language teacher told me "You are an idiot that will never learn English", now I am taking AP Literature and have an A in it (I was born in Chicago but my family moved a lot to different countries like France and Germany). I could not even make a free throw in Basketball in middle school and the coach told me I suck at it, now I easily make three pointers. I know I can do it but will I ever get an opportunity to be a Quarterback? moreResolved Question: What are my chances of getting into the college of arts and science at the following schools?

I'm going to college this January. I have no clue what I want to major in. I know that I do not have to decide my major until the end of my sophomore year but I would like to at least narrow my decision down. I'm going to give you a little background info on me. I'm pretty handy with computers. I can unassemble and reassemble them pretty easily. I like technology, specifically new technology. Say for example, I purchased a laptop that was supposed to have all the new features, then a month later another company comes out with a newer version. I would sell my month-old laptop and purchase the new one; I like all types of new technology. However, this may be a lot of people as well that think this way. I feel I always work better alone. So if there is a major that leads to a specific career that involves working alone to get the job done then I'm all for it. When I was in 11th grade I took computer graphics and I loved it. That literally was the only class that I actually couldn't wait to get into. You're saying then why don't I major in computer graphics? It's the money that's stopping me from doing that. I would like to make at least 60,000 a year and from what I've seen graphic artists only make around 30-40,000 a year. If there were a job that graphic artists made at least 60,000 a year, or eventually make 60,000 a year then please tell me. I also love football and basketball, but more so football, specifically NFL, not so much college. Do you know of a career that I could end up getting with the NFL or NBA? Now I'll tell you about some of my academic background. I graduated in the top ten percent of my class. Ever since middle school I've been on the honor roll. The worst gpa I've received was a 3.2. I feel that I'm much better at writing than at math so keep that in mind. I always received good grades but I don't really consider myself that smart. I think I'm just an intellectual person that can figure things out with time. I didn't even receive that good of a score on the SAT. I received a 1540 which is considered pretty much average - I think at least. This is why I feel the SAT doesn't justifiably dictate what someone knows or has learned. I could care less about the SAT if it weren't for college requirements. Anyhow: For all of you who are pursuing a major or already have graduated, what major did you decide and why? What type of person do you think would best fit your major? Would you consider your major difficult to study night in and night out? Please tell me anything that you think will help me decide my major. If you think you can help further, please feel free to email me. moreResolved Question: What college can i get into/apply to?
I am currently a junior in high school. I have a 4.2 GPA and am taking AP classes and have not taken the SAT/ACT or SAT II. What should I am to score on these? I also have play 3 years of basketball and 1 varsity. I am in student council, on the math team and a minority. I do not have a lot of volunteer work. I want to go to med school. Currently my top choices for college are Ohio State, UCLA, Northwestern, Stanford, or any ivy league. Where could i get in and what should i do to help get in those schools? Would getting a part time job help? Also how many volunteer hours should I aim for? If you have any suggestions for other schools i should apply to that would be great to. thanks. moreResolved Question: Singing abilities to get into good college?
Ok. Im in high school and I want to be a business major. However, I also tend to be aiming for a very hard university like Stanford. Ever since I was little, my goal was to get in there. But as I grew older, I lost confidence and lowered my goal, eventually going from Stanford, to UC Berkeley, to U of A, to a community college. Its because of the fact that you need like a 5.0 gpa and perfect score to get into schools like Stanford if youre trying to get into a top school. So my question is this: "How can I make my singing ability become my tool to get into a good college?" First, lets back track a little bit. Let's say I played Varsity basketball in my high school for 4 years, team captain and such, then id probably get in or if i am a very good golfer, won awards, then go into stanford like Tiger Woods. I am good at singing, so how can I make that work? Do I have to do live concerts or something like that????Or do i enter contests? How can i get people to acknowledge my talent and use that to get in to a good college meaning, use it to my advantage?? Sorry for this longggg explanation but I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this thing. Once again, thank you and Id appreciate it if you can answer it detailed and clearly please. Thank you. The thing is there's no "Varsity Singing Vocal Class" you know...I don't know what I can do at school, there's only choir and i dont think thatll really help because i wont really stand out..Maybe if high schools have Vocal class and you go to competition or something like that...lolz Lemme rephrase it again, I think it wasnt clear. I am trying to use my singing talent to my advantage to get into a good college for me to get in so I can go into Business because I need some sort of a big talent if I am going to go into Harvard. Like 5.0 gpa moreResolved Question: Where can I find the score of the current SW Baptist Univ. vs. Missouri Baptist college basketball game?

What type of colleges do you think I'll be able to get into? Hey, I'm a 16 year old junior in HS and from time-to-time, I feel kind of nervous about my chances at getting into a good college. Through my freshman and sophomore years, I ended up with a 3.1 GPA. And now for my Junior year, I'd say I'm on pace to achieve a 3.7 for this school year (because I messed around and got a 3.4 the first marking period). I played football last year, I'm a varsity basketball player, a member of my school's ERASE (End Racism and Sexism Everywhere) Club, Key Club (Volunteer Organization), Class Council (2010), School Council, and I write for the school newspaper. Now I'm not looking for acceptance into an Ivy League School (eh, not for me...) or even a really good public like the U of Virginia, but I do want to go to a good 4-year university. I'm from NJ and my brother (along with 2 cousins of mine) is a freshman at Rutgers and he told me that for his Jr. year he got a 3.9-something GPA. I'm not comparing myself with him, but he got accepted into some other good schools aside from Rutgers like American U and Lehigh... and I was just wondering if I would be able to get into similar schools. Based on what I've told you, what types of colleges do you think I'll be able to get into assuming my SAT and/or ACT scores end up being good and I get at least that 3.7 for this year? moreResolved Question: WHERE IN THE DRAFT WOULD I GET DRAFTED? 10 points best answer/feedback?
I'm in a basketball league at the local gym. After 8 games I averaged 24.5 points per game, 15.3 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game. I led the league in scoring and rebounds. The last game I had 30, 21, 10..my first Triple Double in the league, i had to state those numbers cause it was a pretty sick performance if i must say so myself. League games are 36 minutes, running clock, fouls called with running clock for free throws, 4 on 4, i usually play 30 minutes of the game. They are people of all ages playing in the league, mainly 20-35 year olds...more mid 20 and the league is half black and half white. If I were to get drafted in the NBA, based on my stats, how high in the draft do you think I would go. Some background information on me...Measurements, 6'6'' 220lbs.,23 years old, white. stopped playing organized basketball when i was 14, practiced throughout high school, though i wrestled instead of bball, and played pick up bball throughout college Let me know your answer and feedback..thought this would be a fun question to answer... 10 points to best answer/feedback. 18.5 Points, 14.9 Rebounds, 7.0 Blocks Dwight Howard's stats in High School, playing against little white kids. O.K., the 21's, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett. When Duncan was a number 21, they were continuously winning with the Spurs and Duncan had 4 rings. Garnett as a 21, Zero rings. He changes his number to #5 once traded, and he wins a ring himself. Kobe Bryant wins with Shaquille O'Neal with his #8, and wins constantly too. 3 rings for Bryant. Now, his number is #24 he hasn't won since then. The power is in the numbers. I believe this too well. Sometimes, just because you have a certain number, it may be a blessing for someone else, and a curse for someone else at the same time. Duncan, even though Parker and Ginobili are hurt right now, Duncan is playing a better game and scoring more even though he's been double teamed at times, and they said Duncan was getting old, and the Spurs were too. You don't get old and score 55 points in a game, there's unselfishness, the Spurs never cared about scoring that was just it, it was about defense first. Anyway, back to my point. Numbers affect us everyday even in sports. Read up on Numerology. You probably can tell who's going to win this year's championship based off of numbers this year. Phoenix Suns will only win if Grant Hill changes his number too, for all of you Suns fans. #33 equals number 6 which is bad for Grant Hill, it was good for him in college but bad for him in the NBA. That's why a college player should never carry his college or high school jersey as in the pros. Lebron James did it from High school, he hasn't won a NBA title yet. The #23 which is really equal to a 5 is not a good number for him right now. moreResolved Question: ESPN Streak for Cash?
Which of these 2 scenarios are more likely to happen, Ball State vs Miami (OH) with a score totaling 54 or lower or 55 or higher. And Atlanta Hawks vs Chicago Bulls? I need to know which one to go with, I am not a fan of basketball so I don't know who to pick there, and I don't watch college football that often either. moreVoting Question: Duncan vs. Iverson, who's better?
My brother and I got into this heated argument about who'd be a better 1st overall draft pick between Iverson and Duncan. What do you guys think? Who would you pick fresh out of college? My brother's pick was Iverson for the following reasons. 1. Stats... rare to find a player who can score above 20pts every season with over 6apg and 2 steal per game. 2. Exceptional speed 3. Single handedly leading his team to 01 NBA finals, having had to deal with poor teammates compared to those of Duncan's. (While in Philadelphia) My pick was obviously Duncan for the following reasons. 1. Consistent play 2. Leadership 3. Stats... only 2pts below iverson's average ppt. this is worth taking a look, since Iverson is known for his scoring ability. Not to mention his exceptional rebounding and blocking skills. 4. Championship RINGSSSSS On the top of above question, my brother is also asking whether or not championship rings and leadership should be considered in defining a great player. He continuously asserts that Duncan's championship rings and leadership should not be considered in determining a better basketball player between duncan and iverson. Would you guys agree with him? moreResolved Question: Auburn,Alabama,Michigan st,Tennessee,Miami?

I want it to be free and preferably have live scoring and have 8 slots for teams. moreResolved Question: What are my Chances of getting into Uc Berkeley out of high school?
Uc berkeley has been my dream school for Law ever since Freshman year. My first plan was to transfer for grad school, after graduating with majors in Pre-law and business. I've been looking at schools like Cornell college and the university, I've talked to the Cornell college's dean of admissions at a college fair and he made it seem it was almost a sure fire shot of getting in. But, a friend of mine was offered a full ride to the university, and said it was an amazing campus although it is, an ivy league school so, its gonna be harder to get into, but i feel that if i get into the university switching to UC berkeley will become easier. Here's my info: Currently I'm a Junior, so for an average gpa throughout high school i have probablly somewhere between a 3.8 or 3.9 not weighed. Jr. year im taking Honors English 11 (cant take ap english till senior year) Pre-calc (farthest i can be jr year) Ap Bio Ap History Bible 11 Choir Ind. Study on Civil Liberties and Bill of rights Spanish 2 (will take a 3rd year) In both AP classes i plan on getting atleast a 4 on the test, ive done a couple of things for leadership, like HOBY (a youth leadership conference for sophomores i was chosen out of my class to attend the seminar for a weekend) Student government, Class council, Executive council, Class president, currently the secretary for my student government class, Im the lead attorney in my school's mock trial team, even though im only a junior. I participate in Soccer, basketball, track, (Which all were varsity level) and ski-club for fun. Since Freshman and Sophomore year ive taken the most challenging classes possible, ive been a year ahead of the majority of my class, taking honors english classes since sophomore year, a year ahead in math, and a year in science. Next year i'm taking: Ap Government Chemistry Ap Calculus Bible 12 AP english i cant think of all of them but i think 1 or 2 more ap classes umm my Act i dont remember the score all i remember i was in the 90 to 94 percentile, and my SAT i took a practice one in my SAT class and got a 1720, which is a terrible score considering i made a mistake in the math section, my writing was a 670 which i know will improve by the end of the class, my essay got a 5.5 out of 6, math i think was in the 500's only because i left a question blank then forgot to actually skip it so i was a question behind for a good number of questions.... But i thought math was hands down the easiest section so it should be somewhere in the 700's and critical reading was in the low 600's but im thinking this will be atleast 675 by the end of the class. wow that was a lot of writing for a question thanks for taking the time to read that all.... lol and i'd love to know exactly what you think i should do and what my chances are... Also i'm in the National Honors Society and have 100 hours of community service this year, around 30 for freshman and sophomore year, plan on volunteering in a hospital this summer where my mom works, doing an internship at a law firm, and a part time job, just for summer..... moreResolved Question: D'Antoni?.....Knick Fans, time to wake up?
D'Antoni not playing Marbury and Curry? It's just playing games and being unprofessional. First you allow them to play during the pre-season and then as soon as the season starts, they sit? All D'Antoni has created is instant stress on the team, instant chaos. Coming off a win over the Heat, after the team almost completely lost a 23 point lead and allowed last year's last place team to score 40 points in the 4th quarter, D'Antoni is patting himself on the back too much. Now Phillie comes to town to set in the reality of what the Knicks season could really be like.... losing by about 30 points. How many 30 point losts before the Garden gets ugly. They think they can sit back and talk about rebuilding for the next 2 or 3 years, but this is New York, baby. D'Antoni can be booed just like anyone else. Sure run and gun like Phoenix, and play no defense just like Phoenix. The NY Knicks defensive basketball gods like Frazier and Ewing and Red Holtzman (rest in peace) must be wondering what kind of Knick team this will be. As for Marbury and Curry, they are players, and if they are in shape and on the team, then play them. Why play little children games? If you are a great coach, then prove it by coaching these difficult players. Phil Jackson would have done it. Jordan was able to get Rodman to play. Is D'Antoni getting paid to coach, or to be petty? Season before last, Marbury was like number two in assists in the league, so what the hell do you mean he can't pass? In any event, he will make his 20+ million, then go to Italy and play, followed by a host of other NBA players. Only a matter of time before the number one college player in this country decides to go there too. I wish the NBA would be more about balling and less about the damn business.... and fans, players are people too. The newspapers and media makes a monster out of a guy like Marbury, but in his personal life he is loved by family and friends and thousands of kids, 11,000 that attend his basketball touraments. He even gave a donation of millions of dollars to NY City workers last year, but you did not hear much about that, nor about the thousands of pairs of sneakers he gave to kids: http://www.nba.com/knicks/community/marb... http://www.stopmikelupica.com/2007/06/ma... http://www.sportsbusinessnews.com/_news/... moreTop College Basketball Scores Links
