Resolved Question: How do you feel about this? please give me your opinion, I wrote this story when I was in college, got an A!?

Why Me? After days of beating my brains out trying to figure out what kind of an essay I wanted to write, I still had no clue. I went to bed that night still confused and disappointed that I could not pick one subject out of the many experiences in my life. I think I have had so many that I have a hard time picking just one. After many hours of tossing and turning, I finally succumbed to some much needed sleep. I had a dream about a very close friend of mine; we were playing golf as we had so many times before. Kevin hit a beautiful drive right down the middle of the fairway. I stepped up to address the ball “Hello ball.” Ok, I know tired old joke. I kept trying to hit the ball but, it would not go anywhere, I tried and tried and finally Kevin just looked at me with that crooked off-center grin of his and walked away. I tried to follow but, like my golf ball I could not move or go anywhere. I watched confused as he walked into the distance until he slowly faded away into a shadowy darkness. When I woke up the next morning I was still trying to make some sense out of this dream, while searching for some important papers that I had of course put in a place that I could find easily. After an hour of looking I had still not found the papers but I came across my high school year books. As I sat down and thumbed through the pages it all came together. I became excited each time I saw the picture of an old friend but I soon became aware of a nagging sensation that would not go away. As I continued my unexpected journey down memory lane my feelings of dread and fear continued to grow. The reasons for my trepidation became suddenly and frightfully clear; with each name and picture the feelings grew stronger and stronger. I could not understand this because it should have been a time of joy; instead I was hit with many confliction emotions. The memories that flooded my brain with so many wonderful times were exhilarating and overwhelming. My senses were sent into some kind of an overload, each page brought a new sensation. My mind in a blur, I could not comprehend why after all these years opening those books would cause so many conflicting emotions. Page after page I continued on. Letting my mind drift back to an easier and peaceful time I found myself finally relaxing and enjoying myself. The first picture I stopped at was of Val George co-conspirator in the great pig caper. As country boys we had a strange sense of humor and decided it would be great to turn some pigs loose in the school. So we kidnapped a few, one of which was a huge old boar the size of a Buick! We snuck up to one of the rear doors of the school with the pigs in the back of Val’s old farm truck, opened the doors and let them go. As Bob Grimaud drove the truck away Val and I went upstairs to watch the show. As we got seated upstairs on a balcony all hell broke loose. There were girls screaming, pigs screaming (sometimes it was hard to tell the difference). The vice-principle came running down the hall to see what all the noise was and when he saw the pigs he just naturally figured the thing to do was chase them. But any one who has ever been around a pissed-off boar pig knows that was not the wisest decision. As Mr. Bowen rounded the corner in hot pursuit of that old pig, Val and I decided it was time to get the hell out of Dodge! Doubled over and laughing so hard we could barely run we looked back just in time to see Mr. Bowen come flying around the corner with that old boar right on his ass! Well, we made good our escape and they never did figure out who pulled that one. I salute you old friend. The next picture that caused me to pause was of Kevin Walker from my dream. Kevin and I had been friends from the time we were old enough to pick up a ball. We started playing sports together in little league and continued to share many wonderful moments, like the time we won the state championship in basketball. Kevin and I were the leading scorers in the game and had our pictures put in the paper, but what I remember most was how the cheerleaders hugged us as we ran off the court. That was the best part! Kevin was half Cherokee Indian and I became very close with his father, Dwayne. I loved hearing the stories he used to tell about his ancestors. I miss you my friend. Oh my God there is a picture of big Dave Gillispie. Dave was one of the largest men I had ever seen. He was about six feet five inches tall and weighed about 480 lbs! Needless to say he was the heavyweight on the wrestling team, Dave went on to win a national title in freestyle. Dave was one my heroes and even though he was older than me we became very close friends. When I was in 9th grade I was the starting goalie on the high school hockey team so I got to know some of the older guys. I was at the skating rink one night with a date when a bunch of guys from our rival high school cornered me. I thought I was dead. Just when . Dave was one of the largest men I had ever seen. Resolved Question: A question about being nervous?

Well I'm 17 years old and a Senior in highchool. A little back round information about is that in middle school I was in drama, track, basketball, baseball, band and jazz band. I pretty much did everything and excelled at it all. I made all my traveling teams and just had a great time, but recently all has been going down hill. My freshman year in highschool I started noticing a problem, in spanish class one day near the start of school I was sitting in my classroom a little nervous which is normal for the first day of school and I could always handle my nerves with ease. The class had upper classman as well which kinda intimidated me a little bit. The teacher was going around the room asking our named, I told her my name was Bryce and then from that point on she started picking on me, she did this because I'm very good at disquising my nerves, she asked me some question about a spanish word, I had no idea and nor did she expect me to, just kinda trying to get a laugh but I couldn't handle it I felt my face get really red and I could no longer laugh, it felt like my face muscles tighten and or were just really unstabble. I didn't know what the heck was going on with me, I Just burried my head in my arms and kinda shook my head and no one could even tell they though I was just shrugging the question off. But ever since then it happens all the time. I get extra nervous for everything, I have mini panic attacks and when I get a lot of people looking at me or acknologing me I freeze and can't show any expression and I beging to stutter and just can't think straight, and then after words I'm always wondering why I did this, or didn't say that. It feels as though I go into a state of just uncontrolable fright. I went to a nurse practictioner recently and he told me that I had a social phobia that broke lose when I was put on the spot like that when I had no idea about a foreign language. He put me on paxel and wrote me a note for Home bound learning and that's what I'm doing now. I don't feel like the pills are helping me right now, but I'm suppose to go see him again and he promised me we will get it taken care of. I hate this so much. I'm going to college next year and I don't want this to ruin my life. I"m also a drummer in a band, but I've had to put that on hold too. I NEED to get this taken care of, I won't let it stop me and I will find a way to deal with this, my brother who was 20 years old had this same thing that I have and he committed suicide because of it, I need to find out the answer to this problem for him. So please if you have any suggestion or any more ideas of what I have or any way to deal with this I would appreciate it greatly! Or if you suffer from it too and want to talk about it you can e-mail me at Bryce_enck@hotmail.com. If you finished reading all this I thank you.  more

Voting Question: Why does UNC Tyler Hansbrough have so many haters? ?

If Tyler Hansbrough would have left early the NBA draft might have looked a little different. Tyler is just a beast. Even though he gets double teamed he still gets buckets. Hansbrough is one of those guys who has a lot of haters. You should read some of the blogs and youtube comments people leave. I admit the White commentators favor him a lot of times while they do the play by play during the game. How often do they get a chance to do it in college? I say he will be in the top 5 pick next year. Maybe even number one if they take it all the way. http://hoopsaddict.com/2008/12/01/college-basketball-power-rankings-12108/ I want to know what he gets away with? He gets fouled more and harder than anyone I've seen in a long time. He is double teamed and still manage to put up great numbers.  more

Resolved Question: Did I make the right decision?

Hello all. I'm hoping that someone will listen to my story. Today I broke up with my girlfriend of one year. The reason is complicated. I am young, I am 17 years old. My girlfriend is also young she is 16. I am a senior in high school getting ready to go to college and she is a sophomore with little or no concern for college. We met a year ago at a party. Sparks were flying when we met and there was instant attraction. We dated for three weeks and we had a lot of fun and were happy so I decided to become her boyfriend. My life changed dramatically. I no longer went out, no partying, barely any friends. She then started being mean to me for a while and would get mad easily and would even go to the point of hitting me. I stayed with her and after a couple of months she stopped. We had horrible fights that had many drama. I had never been so serious with a girl. She knows my family and such and I am never one to break up with a girl. I gave her hope and I never hung out with my friends anymore especially girls. I had grown attached to her. Everyday we would see each other. Slowly I started comtemplating what used to be forbidden: breaking up with her. She became a distraction to my school work and I started seeing less and less of a point in being with her. We met in November 07 and started feeling these things during the Summer of 08. We started growing apart slowly and we haven't lost feelings for each other per say however, we have started to become less happy. She is always complaining about something and I begin to doubt whether I truly have a future with this girl. We still fight and we "broke up" various times late in our relationship but I decided to be with her. I would miss her too much and what felt like the right thing (breaking up) felt like the wrong thing after. It seems like when I'm with her I want to break up with her and when we break up I want to be with her. We have both changed and no longer are the same people we were when we got together. Today I did something drastic. I told her that I don't believe she is attracted to me and I had a discussion about how my life is going to fast for her. My last year of high school, college, work, money problems it was all too much for her to handle. We broke up and she had mixed reactions. At first she was OK with it and wanted to sleep with me (literally go to sleep) then she got very angry and then cried then went to sleep then became sarcastic. I wonder If I did the right thing. I thought about both of us and our futures, me going to college and her concentrating on her school work to be able to go to college in the future. I tried to keep it mature but she is not mature at times and started insulting me and said very hurtful things to me. I have become attached to her, my mom buys her food, I call her everyday to pick her up and take her to school and take her to my home then take her home at 6 everyday for a year. She has many items of hers in my room or car. Looking and these things I wonder if I am doing the right thing. I am not crying nor am I sad. In fact after I dropped her off after breaking up, I went to a basketball game at school and had an alright time with my friends. I dont know if we will get back together. I would normally want to open up to a friend but I am worried about the reactions my friends will have that I have broken up with her and will tell the whole world when it is truly my business. Here at Yahoo Answers, nobody knows me and can give me an honest, unbiased opinion. What do you all think? Did I do the right thing or the wrong thing? Is it better for me to be single or should I be with her?? I do not know I am so confused.....  more

Resolved Question: My girlfriend did not get me a gift for our 1 year anniversary. Should I be upset?

Ok well we have been dating since late October of 2007 so its been a little over a year. Our anniversary was at the end of October and I made reservations to eat where we had our first date. I dressed up in slacks and a button down tie and picked her up. I opened the car door for her and acted very gentlemen like. We went to dinner and I paid of course. Then when we got back to her apartment(we don't go to my place cause I live with the man that owns the house and you can see why that would be awkward) I then gave her her card. I picked out a card from the hallmark store and wrote her a heart felt note on it. I had also ordered her some Burton thermals for when we go snowboarding. Then I gave her her big gift which was a promise ring that I had gotten her at Zales. It was only $263 with the warranty which isn't much but is a lot for my budget working part time and a full time college student. It is 10k gold with a 1/7 carrot diamond. I really liked it and was excited to give it to her. She was very happy and started to cry again(she started crying after the note I wrote on the card) She kissed me and hugged me. Then she kind of made a funny face and said, "I didn't get you anything. . . but I wrote you a letter." It was a nice letter and we really sort of expressed the same feelings in our letters. So that was nice. I said it was fine that she didn't get me anything and didn't make any kind of deal out of it. It has kind of been bothering me though. Last Christmas I spent about $250 on her gifts. I tried hard to find things I thought she would like. I also tend to go a little overboard because at the time we had only been dating for two months. She got me two t-shirts and then just a bunch of "junk". Now don't get me wrong I am happy she bought me something. I like the shirts I wear them all the time. They are very practical. Aside from that she got me a pack of gum, play dough, and a few other gifts that were along those lines. She also got me a box of Whoppers that she decorated like a reindeer. The back had a little flap that was a tail and it was perfect to make the Whoppers "poop" out the Whoppers which kind of look like poop. It was really cute and was my favorite thing she got me. However her gifts didn't seem quite up to par with mine. I was very gracious and acted like I really did like the gum and play dough. I also figured I just kind of over do it and at the time she did not have a job so I didn't think much of it. It just kind of sucked cause I had been talking to my coworkers for about a month before trying to decide what to get her. They wanted to know how she liked the gifts and what she got me. I explained and they were polite and said, "Oh thats nice" but I could tell they were thinking something else. I forgot about it. For Valentines day she had been wanting a bamboo plant so I got her this really cool bamboo plant, chocolate covered strawberries and I took her out for a nice dinner(nicer than I thought lol I didn't know how expensive the resturant we went to was gonna be I just heard it was good. I didn't expect a $70 meal for both of us). She got me some basketball shorts. We both were happy and it seemed right. Her birthday came in July and she had gone snowboarding in the winter with me a couple of times. She had never been and rented equipment. She had kind of said that she would like snowboarding stuff for her birthday. Like I said I tend to overdo things. I bought her all new Burton board bindings and boots. She was ecstatic. It was really fun to give to her. I found deals on ebay and stuff but still spent around $600. Then came our 1 year anniversary which I already explained. She had a job this time and has had it for a while now. So she had time. She got me nothing. I wasn't too upset and made sure she thought I didn't care at all but it is still kind of bothering me. Then came my birthday. She was sort of hounding me for things that I wanted. I was hesitant to tell her what I wanted because I wanted to be surprised a little. She got mad and told me she shouldn't be expected to read my mind. I broke down and gave her a couple of things I wanted. I told her I wanted a external hard-drive that I needed for photography and I also wanted some pedals and shoes for my road bike. She made me order them off ebay for myself and pay with her paypal account. They were about $150 together. I was happy cause I wanted both but was a little disappointed lack of surprise but I figured I wouldn't have gotten what I wanted if she would have surprised me. She did however tell her parents that I wanted a new comforter and sheets for my bed. I had been wanting them for a while and they got them for me. I know it was totally her idea and I really liked it and I was totally surprised. Now the only thing I have said is what we give each other for gifts but the relationship in general is amazing. I lover very much. I consider her my f  more

Resolved Question: Do you think it’s ok to foul some all game playing pick up just because their BIGGER/STRONGER than you?

I’m 6’4, 240lb and played 4 years of high school and college ball as a starter. Growing up with my father in the military I had the opportunity to play street ball all over the US from Atlanta, Alaska, North Carolina and Arizona just to name a few. You can compare my game to a KG/Anthony Mason type. I hate to loose, love to compete and know how to move my weight around. Because of that a lot of guys don’t like guarding me. Being my size I get a lot of fouls compared to most playing pick up. 6’4 is not tall by any means in the real world of basketball. unfortunately most of the gyms I go to in Phoenix I wind up being the tallest guy on the court. I can play any position but when you play against smaller guys in pick up ball they don’t like guys my size bring the ball up or taking too many out side shoots. So I just choose to stay in side most time just to balance things out on offense and to avoid hearing someone mouth, “why don’t you post up”. Another thing I can’t understand is when I post up most of the guys in the gym don’t know how to make a decent pass?! I was hooping at the La Fitness in Scottsdale AZ a few months ago and go into it with couple of guys on the other team. They had a smaller guy guarding me and he was letting me have it every time and went up for shoot or a rebound. You could say he was playing dirty because half the time he wasn’t even going for the ball. After about 10 minutes of this I started to get irritated. The next play I down I went in for an offensive rebound and gave him a little shove on his side and he fell. I grabbed the rebound and pump faked when I landed getting another player in the air. I took a drop step and got fouled hard as hell by another guy but managed to muscle up a shot with my left hand. I yelled AND 1 SON!!! Then I ran down the court to play D. The guy who fell got up and said that bucket didn’t count because it was an offensive foul?! The other two guys that I made look stupid joined in and started co signing with their teammate. These idiots held the game up for 10 min arguing the call. My argument was no one stopped playing, or made a call and I was getting hacked all game never made one call. The guy who fouled me for the lay up said but he is smaller than you. I replied, so that makes it ok for him to foul me all game because I’m bigger, and he looked at me and said “yes”. So I asked him to switch with his man and guard me because he was about my size but he didn’t. They didn’t let me keep the point and no one on my team would speak up, so I just let it ride. Every time my man caught the ball on D I just started doing to him what he had been doing to me for 15 min. What I didn’t understand is when he got a hard foul from me everyone one would just check the ball up?!? We ended up winning the game anyway. The big guys never win sometimes. Don’t get it twisted about AZ because this story they have a lot of good hoopers in this state. The best runs are in the summer and off season, but that’s about anywhere I guess no is old enough to know who Anthony Mason is. I’m a monster in the post, that’s just how I play. I didn’t get over hundred thousands wins under my belt from playing soft. I just hate hearing the bitchassness when I play physical. They try to call offensive fouls or complain when they receive a retaliation foul. Shaq is a perfect example, he has been getting hacked all his career, but when he gives someone like Rodney Stuckey a frustration foul or slaps someone is their mouth like he did Greg Ostertag they look at him like he’s the bad guy. That’s messed up you be trying to hurt folks. I had some fool like you come under when I went in for a dunk last month. King, the mind is a terrible thing to waste.  more

Resolved Question: Am I the only one who watches college and NBA basketball notice this?

I watch college basketball and NBA, My first love is NBA. Now, here's what I notice. I notice that in the NBA they have more of offensive weapons that they use when driving to the hoop and shooting the basketball. I never hardly see college players using the up and under, the drop step, post spin move, and triple threat position hardly. Mostly, pass, pass, pass around the perimeter until someone's open and then shoots in college basketball. It's as if the college basketball player's don't know how to create their own shot like NBA players do. It's either that or the College coaches don't allow them to do so because their focus is on the offensive system that doesn't allow that. When I go to the court to play pick up ball, I can play in the post or at the top because I know all the offensive weapons and after watching the NBA for years as a kid too, I know how to play like that. If I were in college I'd have to learn a whole different system, as if I didn't know how to create my own shot. Are there any college basketball players or teams that allow their players to create their own shot or have the early knowledge right now and looks like a NBA player already?  more

Resolved Question: Could someone critique this college app. essay for me please?

Prompt 2: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are? When I was a kid, I was afraid of everything. Every change in my life scared me and I didn’t have the courage to face them. After I entered middle school, I grew taller and stronger. I started to play basketball because my brother told me that most basketball player were muscular and tall. He also told me that I had the talent and the natural height advantage to play well. The first day I picked up a basketball, my brother taught me the fundamental rules and techniques of the game. He was very strict, and he created challenging training schedules. After a few months, my skills began to improve faster than I expected. During those few moments, I've felt like nothing in the world could scare me. And all my worries disappeared when I was on the court. Playing basketball helped me relax and have the courage to face troubles. One time my brother took me to the gym, There I saw basketball players who were much older than me and much better at basketball. The people in the basketball court were very big and tough like the Great Hulk in the movies. As I watched them play, I began to lose my confidence and excitement for the game. I was too scared to play with them. I was afraid that I might disappoint my brother and make him angry. Although I decided not to play in the game, my brother didn't get angry. He comforted me and told me that I would not disappoint him. He gave me the courage to not give up. In the beginning, I was terrible at basketball. But over time, I started to show my best potential. I tried hard to surpass other basketball players. I determined to show them I was not as weak as they thought. And I didn’t want to go home with embarrassed. In the end, I was able to lead my basketball team to win the game I realized that everything seems hard and scary at first glance, but if we don’t give things a try we have no chance to conquer them. Playing basketball changed my life.. I don’t give up easily now. When any thing challenges me, I would do my best to complete it. As basketball became my best friend, I continued playing and saw it as a way to improve myself. I am proud that I have the ability to improve myself and make a big difference in my life. my essay is about 430 words,, can you guys tell me where i can add more to make this essay better?  more

Resolved Question: WHERE IN THE DRAFT WOULD I GET DRAFTED? 10 points best answer/feedback?

I'm in a basketball league at the local gym. After 8 games I averaged 24.5 points per game, 15.3 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game. I led the league in scoring and rebounds. The last game I had 30, 21, 10..my first Triple Double in the league, i had to state those numbers cause it was a pretty sick performance if i must say so myself. League games are 36 minutes, running clock, fouls called with running clock for free throws, 4 on 4, i usually play 30 minutes of the game. They are people of all ages playing in the league, mainly 20-35 year olds...more mid 20 and the league is half black and half white. If I were to get drafted in the NBA, based on my stats, how high in the draft do you think I would go. Some background information on me...Measurements, 6'6'' 220lbs.,23 years old, white. stopped playing organized basketball when i was 14, practiced throughout high school, though i wrestled instead of bball, and played pick up bball throughout college Let me know your answer and feedback..thought this would be a fun question to answer... 10 points to best answer/feedback. 18.5 Points, 14.9 Rebounds, 7.0 Blocks Dwight Howard's stats in High School, playing against little white kids. He got drafted pretty High  more

Resolved Question: ESPN Streak for Cash?

Which of these 2 scenarios are more likely to happen, Ball State vs Miami (OH) with a score totaling 54 or lower or 55 or higher. And Atlanta Hawks vs Chicago Bulls? I need to know which one to go with, I am not a fan of basketball so I don't know who to pick there, and I don't watch college football that often either.  more

Voting Question: Duncan vs. Iverson, who's better?

My brother and I got into this heated argument about who'd be a better 1st overall draft pick between Iverson and Duncan. What do you guys think? Who would you pick fresh out of college? My brother's pick was Iverson for the following reasons. 1. Stats... rare to find a player who can score above 20pts every season with over 6apg and 2 steal per game. 2. Exceptional speed 3. Single handedly leading his team to 01 NBA finals, having had to deal with poor teammates compared to those of Duncan's. (While in Philadelphia) My pick was obviously Duncan for the following reasons. 1. Consistent play 2. Leadership 3. Stats... only 2pts below iverson's average ppt. this is worth taking a look, since Iverson is known for his scoring ability. Not to mention his exceptional rebounding and blocking skills. 4. Championship RINGSSSSS On the top of above question, my brother is also asking whether or not championship rings and leadership should be considered in defining a great player. He continuously asserts that Duncan's championship rings and leadership should not be considered in determining a better basketball player between duncan and iverson. Would you guys agree with him?  more

Resolved Question: Does this sound fair ?

Okay so my mother let my 2 older sisters pick their high schools the Summer they were going to 9th Grade (one is in college & one is about to go to college next year.) ;she didnt have any doubts or anything she didnt even complain;my oldest sister turned out to be just fine when she picked all of her schools & my other sister seems as if she'll make out well too. My mom doesn't want to let me pick the school I want to go to [which has the same standards as the school she's sending me to..]but my school is like so not my type. It doesnt even have a football team or a basketball team or anything like that. [Just swimming, volleyball,& track.]I hate my school sooo much & as of now I have like 2 F's but i've never had an F in my life. She wont let me pick the school I want to go to but she let them do it ; is this fair or am I just being overdramatic ? We can't go to the same school because they're like wayy older than me. & my sister doesn't want to go to the school I want to , she says there are too many prissy girls. whatever. but , I tryed talking to her but she just won't give in. and they're all public schools so money isn't the problem.. && btw ; im not failing on purpose , i was trying to make a point that at the school she is sending me to , the teachers aren't good & thats even worst because I already dont want to be there in the first place !  more

Resolved Question: Can someone correct/ voice any opinion they have on this article I wrote? ?

ok I wrote a article, but I need the 5W's and how in my lead, so I need somone to tell me what they think and correct what I have. Heres my article. Forty-seven seniors graduated from Hazen Union in Hardwick, Vermont last year. They had to receive good grades in order to be enabled to accomplish future goals, according to Brittany Hay, 18, freshman at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont majoring in Radiography. Many of these seniors are attending college throughout the country like Brendan Greene, 18, who enrolled at Mount Saint Vincent in the Bronx, NY to major in Sports Broadcasting. Since the graduation, Greene has been busy. According to Greene, “I have been working, playing basketball, and preparing myself for college.” Greene also said he is taking classes such as journalism and mathematics. While some students found it easy to prepare for college, Hay said, “Hazen did not prepare me well; Champlain was trying to make me take summer math classes because I scored low on my SATS.” While Greene and Hay are going to college, Willie McAllister, 17, is now a Carpenter. McAllister said, “I didn’t mind not going to college, I rather work and get paid.” McAllister also said he did not have to deal with the stress of dealing with thinking about college, or the dept. Although most kids have trouble picking a college, or find out they don’t like the college, Hay said, “It was easy picking Champlain because they offered my major, and they were close to home.” Greene said he might move back to Vermont and attend a college closer to home; although he likes it in New York, he’d rather attend a college in Vermont. Last year's seniors are on their own paths and as they reflect on their last year of high school, “They tried to stay out of trouble during their last two semesters of high school, but at the same time they also "tried to make the year fun," according to Greene.  more

Resolved Question: which sport should i pick?

im a junior in high school and i play for both the basketball team and the baseball team. I love basketball and started last year on jv and should make varsity now i really have no problems with that except the fact that im 5'11 and no colleges are even talking to me and i also probably will never start on varsity even when i play my senior year. Now baseball ive started both years ive between the two years ive had a .341 batting average hit 3rd in the linuep almost everygame and have had 5 total errors throughout the 2 years. Now ive gotten letters from some Division 1 coaches but its just for camps and showcases. Also the varsity coach hates me because apparently i goof around too much in school and practice and i miss winter workouts for basketball. Also last year he brought up 7 of the 9 sophmores on jv to varsity(even the kids hitting .200) and didnt bring me up. Now i dont know if i should try to play both or just focus on one. if you have any suggestions please let me know. i just really need help.  more

Voting Question: Advice for trying out for college basketball?

I plan on trying out for my college basketball team. I am a freshman and I attend a community college and we are a division III school. I love basketball but I admit I am not the most athletic or skilled player. However, I am determined and I do play hard every time I am out playing. I never played high school ball because I wasn't really serious about basketball during my high school years and I had to spend my time working anyway. I am around 5'10 and white. I'm also not the most muscular of people either. As for my playing ability I have had people call me Steve Nash. (though I am not as good as him of course, but I guess my game is similar to his) When I play basketball I am very much into team basketball, moving the ball around, doing whatever it takes, not worried about scoring or personal stats, just playing hard but at the same time having fun. I am most comfortable as a point guard but I don't always get to when I play pick up games because I guess the people don't really know me or expect me to be able to handle the ball well enough or just don't trust me enough to do that. I'm not the best free throw shooter which is probably going to be something that hurts my chances since I don't have much else going for me (can be an inconsistent shooter as well) but I am pretty good at driving to the basket when I can find an opening and I also have a pretty decent defensive game which I think could help out my chances if I can show I can keep up with guys more athletic than me. I don't expect to start or even play much minutes but I want so bad to play basketball and be part of a team and whenever I do get a chance to play I know I'm going to give it my all everytime. I know my chances probably aren't very good, but I am determined to try out. So what advice would you all give me and what do you think my chances are of making the team? I have talked on the phone with the coach once and even met him in person in his office and asked about open gym time so I feel I have made a pretty good impression on the guy so far (spoke clearly to him, made good eye contact, he seems like a really nice laid back guy).  more

Resolved Question: What position should I be playing, and what NBA player would a resemble?

Alright, a little background first. This is the first year at a new school where im NOT in my brothers shadow [he was a football, basketball, and baseball jock], im a sophomore at a brand new school and im happy my brothers gone to college at San Diego State via scholarship. The difference between me and him? Im 6'1 and he's 6'9. With me, i played freshman ball at Del Campo Highschool [Matt Barnes old highschool] and i was the sixth man putting up 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks as a power forward. As much as the coach wanted me to start, i told him i liked being the 6th man because i am such a "spark plug" and i even played more then the starters. Im one of those players that feed on energy and im often getting my teammates to play better. Defensively i dont pick up steals, but i lead CAL league in blocked shots [13 vs Mira Loma]. I take more pride on defense then offense. Offensive wise.. hmm. Inside the paint is where I am most effective because i can draw contact and connect with a high percentage of shots, and im also a great freethrow shooter. Midrange i am just alright, nothing special even though my range is a good 20 feet. Shots from behind the arc arent great, even though I have made some big shots from the 3 point line. Dont count on me attempting many threes because i'd rather slash and make contact. I like to think of myself as a Brad Miller type player [in his PRIME] because im an inside-out scorer and a good passer [3 assists a game]. I am kind of turnover prone because im quick to pass the ball [sometimes I try to get my teammates involved too much rather then taking an open shot..] Well we went 26-1, blowing teams out by 40-50, then me and some other freshman moved up to varsity where we won sections [suprised me that we actually played]. The school im at now..? Not good at any sports, but i hope to change that.  more

Resolved Question: I would really love to play Division 3 basketball someday?

Now I'm 20 years old and started playing again 2 months ago (I haven't played in like a year, due to injuries - torn knee ligament but after recovering I never really picked it up again). The thing is I'm willing to work hard everyday, I have 60 credits from a 4 year uni, and I will be transferring to a junior college next semester because I don't like my current school. I also only plan to stay in junior college for a semester and apply as a transfer. What would it take to get myself back to my high school level and get recruited or tryout for a division 3 team after I leave junior college? My junior college has really talented players so I doubt I'll make the team next semester, but would intramural and self practice be enough to get me ready? I'm also planning to train extremely hard summer 09 and get ready for tryouts for the school I'm hoping to attend. Would I have enough time? If so, what kind of workout plan should I follow? It would be great if someone can give me some advice and direction as I really intend to train hard. I know over training can be dangerous, so I'll balance it out. Thanks and please take this question seriously without insulting remarks, I really appreciate the help. You may be brutally honest, because I don't know what it takes to be a division 3 player.  more

Resolved Question: Basketball question about dribbling?

My coach just told me that he wants me in the point guard position next year.. OHH boy. my brother was a Great basketball player at our school. granted its a smaller school, but he was like the star player. He graduated 3 yrs ago, but everyone knows who he is, jus from basketball. but i'm not as good as he is. he played point guard too. but he's not around to teach me, he's got college and a life. My main problems are this: I can't help but pick up my dribble. When i'm under pressure, i pick it up without thinking. I need to learn how to keep it going. Second problem is aggression. Now, i'm a girl and my bro says that if you show the girls on the court that your aggresive from the start, they're gonna back off right away anyway. So help me? Problems: Picking up dribble. Aggression any help is much needed thanks!  more

Resolved Question: I'm sick of politics! Are all elections like popularity contests?

I'm in high school and before you give me some BS statements like: "You're to young to understand" or " You need to take a government class"; know that I'm not to young to understand the importance of this election or the fact that our country is going down the drain, and I'm in a AP American History class in case your questioning my intelligence. Anyways I was actually excited about this year’s elections. It was cool to see teenagers actually care about the elections. Last time I wouldn’t have even known who the candidates were (besides the obvious Bush) except for the fact that my dad loves politics. Normally many teens wouldn’t really care seeing as we can’t vote but this election is different. But, I now find it sad that these elections have become more of a popularity contest than an election. And maybe that’s how all elections are but I still find it disheartening. There are so many issues to talk about and the media chooses to instead nit pick the candidate’s words for hidden meanings and dig into the candidate’s personal families and lives. It’s as if people are choosing a Prom King instead of a President. Now I’m personally a democrat but I think this “popularity” thing goes on both sides. I see glittery Barack Obama t-shirts all the time and now I see “Palin’s hott!” buttons. I don’t care if the VP’s hot or if the candidate is good at basketball. I want a President who’s going to make it more affordable for me to go to college so I’m not bombarded with loans and debt the minute I graduate. I want a President who’s going to this make this country better so I don’t end up paying for his failures when I’m older. So, I wanted to know if all elections are like this. And please don’t say “You need to learn about ….” or “You don’t understand….” If you’re going to say that then at least explain it to me. I want to know! Can’t you at least be glad that teens actually care about their government? Many people say we’re the dumbest generation so isn’t refreshing that teens actually take time away from MTV & video games or whatever it is people stereo-type us as doing, to get involved in history. To: Jake W I'm 15. I can't vote for McCain (not like I would anyways).  more

Resolved Question: how to get better at basketball if i'm small?

i'm about to enter my last year in college, but just recently playing bball alot. im short, usually the shortest or one of the shortest players whenver i play pick up games. im not quick, not an accurate shooter, and dont have much experience playing bball though i watch the NBA all the time. what should i work on? in pick up games, i try my best on defense, but on offense i usually stand around or pass the ball, only taking shots when wide open. i try to be aggresive when grabbing rebounds, doing the best i can with my limited height and lack of muscles i've been trying workin on my free throws, hoping to become a better overall shooter. what else can i do? whats the point in being constantly moving in order to get an open shot if my teammates rarely pass the ball to me since i cant make open jumpers. also, i'm a little scared of driving to the basket since i'm not fast, quick, strong or tall  more

Voting Question: getting into an IV league. preferably harvard?

im starting highschool now. i have played basketball since 6th grade. i have a full scholarship to my school. i get excellent grades. i do good in basketball too. now that im in highschool i want to be a part of the high honor society thing. i want to join keyclub. i want to join other sports. i want to everything i can that will look good for college. i plan to be an intern during my 2 final years at highschool. at some law firm somewhere. in 2 years i must do good on my SATs. i aim to be the most perfect person i can be. will this look good for harvard in 4 years? im not exactly wealthy so what are the chances of scholarship programs to harvard and other IV league schools? will i look like someone that SHOULD be in a school like harvard. would harvard want me there? what can i do NOW to increase my chances of getting into a good universitty. i know exactly what i want to study and exactl what i want to be. in 30 years i want to be able to afford to host my parents's 50th anniversary and send them to the bahamas. i want to live the glamorous life in the city (manhattan). i love arguing and i want to be a celebrity lawyer like Oj simpson's. i know getting into harvard is mostly connections but connections arent something i have although i may pick up a few when i become an intern but i dont want to lay my chances on luck. what can i do to ensure my admission to my fovored college and what can i do to score great on the SATs, like what kind of classes should i take and which book guides are most helpful? what can i do to "stand out" i mean i kind of want to write some deep pyschological book but i dont know if i can finish it because evertimei start a story i always end up changing it next time i go back andim never able to really continue. and other than writing a book what can you do to get "noticed" OK LOL! Resolved Question: I miss Highschool basketball, but...?

I used to play on the team, I loved the atmosphere of competition, playing zone defense, running offense and playing a real darn game. However after leaving to college I haven't played a proper game for 2 years, except a few pick up games and some intramural. However the intramural bores me, and people never take it seriously, there's no coach, no motivation to play competitively. So my question is... where can I play the kind of competitive basketball, I used to experience during High School? are there local clubs I can join? do they win trophies or at least take games seriously? If so where can I find these clubs and what do you think is the best way to get back in shape? Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Who are the top 2 candidates to win Rookie of the Year next year?

There are so many choices. From where I sit, I see at least 7, and my team the Portland Trailblazers have 3 of them! I'm going to be a total homer here and, of course pick 2 of our (P-town's) rookies as my top candidates. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see them supplanted by either Rose or Beasley or even any other of the candidates I have,or (haven't . . . Gallinari, Randolph?) listed. But wha'ts the fun in having a favorite team if your not a total homer, right? Fell free to write in your own selections if your a total homer too, and I didn't list your teams top draft pick selection here (Knick fans?, Warriors fans?) The candidates(listed alphebtically by last name): Jerryd Bayless - Projected by many to be the 4th best player in the 2008 NBA Draft, he sllipped all the way to 11th and taken by Indiana and traded to Portland. College quick stats - 19.7 ppg 2.7 rpg 4.0 apg. Summer League MVP - 29.8ppg. Member of the "USA Select Team" Michael Beasley - projected as a Number 1 Overall Pick in the NBA Draft for most of the college basketaball season until Derrick Rose's great NCAA Tournament run, he was taken 2nd overall by the Miami Heat. College quick stats - 26.2 ppg 12.4 rpg 1.2 apg, 28 double doubles (a freshman record). Led Orlando Summer League in scoring with 19.6 ppg. Rudy Fernandez - Portland acquired the draft rights to Rudy Fernandez from the Suns for cash in the 2007 NBA Draft. If you watched the Gold Medal game last night between USA vs. Spain, then you know this guy can ball. 2004 Copa del Rey de Baloncesto MVP; 2006 Catalan League Winner; 2006 FIBA EuroCup Winner; 2006 FIBA EuroCup Final Four MVP; Euroleague 2006-07 Rising Star Award; 2008 Catalan League Winner; 2008 Catalan League MVP; 2008 Copa del Rey de Baloncesto Winner; 2008 Copa del Rey de Baloncesto MVP; 2007-08 ULEB Cup Winner; 2007-08 ULEB Cup Final MVP Kevin Love - Taken with the 5th Overall Pick in the NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies and traded to Minnesota in a package that included O.J. Mayo. Touted as the best high school player in the country coming into the college basketball season last year. Pac-10 Freshman of the year. Final 4 participant (losing to Derrick Rose and Memphis). College quick stats - 17.5 ppg 10.6 rpg 1.9 apg. Vegas Summer League quick stats - 18 ppg 13.5 rpg 1.8 apg. Member of the "USA Select Team" O.J. Mayo - Taken with the 3rd Overall Pick in the NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves and traded in a package that included Kevin Love to the Memphis Grizzlies. College quick stats - 20.7ppg 4.5 rpg 3.3 apg (3.5 t/o . . . ouch!). Vegas Summer League quick stats – 18.8 ppg 3.6 rpb 2.6 apg. Member of the "USA Select Team" Greg Oden – Taken with the Number 1 Overall Pick by the Portland Trailblazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. Due to Oden's season ending micro-fracture knee surgery he did not play in a single NBA game last year, making him eligible for R.O.Y this season. Coming into the 2007 Draft Oden was unanimously declared a "once in a decade talent." A wrist injury kept him from playing a full season at Ohio State and he was never 100% healthy. College quick stats – 15.7 ppg 9.6 rpg 3.3 bpg. He might be a dark-horse candidate at this point, but only because he's yet to play a basketball game (in college or the NBA) at full strength and health and people tend to move on the newest and coolest thing very quickly, speaking of newest and coolest thing . . . Derrick Rose – Taken with the Number 1 Overall Pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft. He is considered, unanimously, to be the best pure PG in the draft. His stock rose sharply during the NCAA tournament when he put his team on his back and carried them to a record number of wins in a season (38) and to one of the best NCAA championship games in history, but his team fell just short of the ultimate prize, losing to Kansas in that final game. College quick stats – 14.9 ppg 4.5 rpg 4.7 apg. Played only 2 games in Orlando Summer League and his stats are hardly worth posting, so I won't. So who's it going to be? Give me two. My picks: Greg Oden, Rudy Fernandez  more

Resolved Question: 10 Worst NBA Draft Picks of the Last 10 Years?

Andre's picks 1.1998 - Clippers selected Michael Olowokandi 2.2001 - Wizards selected Kwame Brown 1st overall 3.2002 - Nuggets selected Nikoloz Tskitishvili 5th 4.2003 - Pistons selected Darko Milicic 2nd 5.2000 - Darius Miles 3rd pick Clippers 6.2005 - Magic selected Fran Vazquez 11th 7.1998 - Mavericks selected Robert 'Tractor' Traylor 8.2004 - Raptors selected Rafael Araujo 8th (BYU) 9.1999 - Pacers select Jonathan Bender 5th honorable mention 2000 - Bulls selected Marcus Fizer 4th 2004 - Sonics selected Robert Swift 12th Kwame Brown should have to pay back some type of restitution for the way he has played since he has been in the NBA. I’ve heard people make the excuse of Michal Jordan having a negative impact on his confidence. I don’t believe that because Rip Hamilton seems to have benefited a lot from playing with Jordan. Michael Olowokandi is a good example of NBA teams overrating height. The Clippers slept on a lot of good players and Paul Pierce was one of them. Just because someone is tall does not mean they can play basketball!!! If Olowkani was 6’6, he would not be in the NBA or playing for any other team for employment. Robert Tractor Traylor was a very bad pick. I admit I liked watching the guy in college. It was comical watching a fat kid dunk on people and get crunk. I just have one question. If a guy is fat in college do you think he is going to loose weight when gets to the NBA and has tons of money ?!  more

Resolved Question: Who are the most common season ticket holders? (Specifically in women's college basketball)?

Hi Yahoo Answer members! I am working on a project and I just wanted to pick some brains. I am wondering who are the most common season ticket holders, specifically in women's college basketball. I am thinking places like hospitals and pre-college school staff members are the best places to promote season tickets too but who else do you think are common season ticket holders and season ticket buyers? Thank You  more

Resolved Question: I really need someone's help...it's killing me inside?

I hangout with two co-workers all the time. Well they always work as a team and do half decent at picking up girls. So I normally have to work alone, well that is fine with me. I have little success and they have twice as much. Well it bothers me that they make fun of my lack of success and gloat about theirs at work. Well I work with ALL guys and they give me crap about it too. I've told them that I don't appreciate it and they say "well then have more success". I've listened to them approaching girls and it's nothing special, yet they get more girls than I could dream about getting. I think I'm more interactive...I get girls talking...I make them laugh...but there never seems to be a spark. When I go for a number it always fails me.....but I feel like I'm comfortable...and confident...and I don't ever get hard rejections...but it sucks and hurts.... We've polled girls and they were rated in these girls eyes as better looking than me (helps they are both like 5'10 and lift weights hard). I lift but am naturally tall and thin (as mentioned in other questions I'm 6'9). I could boost about being a good college baseball and basketball player, but I don't boost (they boost). Girls like guys who are into themselves but I can't be that way...or even act that way.... I try to meet girls by myself...or with groups or friends...I go to bars, clubs, grocery store, mall, bookstore...anywhere...nothing. I feel like I want to give up! HELPPPPPPPPPP  more

These guys I hangout with are great guys overall...like they would do anything for them...but they just don't have a good process to helping my cause. Voting Question: American Idol Auditions!!!! ----LOOK HERE!?

Okay so I am an 18 year old girl trying out for American Idol. I have sang my whole life, at church, for my local college basketball games, in lead roles for a theater company, and many other places. I already have my song picked out (Anyway by Martina McBride) however, I am having a little trouble trying to pick out an outfit to wear. I typically just wear jeans and a t-shirt but I can't dress down that much for an audition. I have brown hair, I am 5'9", hazel eyes, slim but muscular, and am currently tan from all the summer sun. I need something that exentuates my face but also requires all attention to be on me (without being one of those weird people that shows up on TV that we all know and laugh about).... Let me know some of your ideas!! (serious answers pleaseeee) wish me luck!!  more

Resolved Question: Why are there not HS and College extreme sports teams?

I was wondering why there are not schools/colleges with extreme sports teams. They are relatively cheap, considering you don't have to: 1.build stadiums/arenas for them, 2. a ton of expensive equipment, and 3. tons of offseason/summer programs to muscle up for the competition. Why would a TINY SMALL SCHOOL IN DIVISION 2 NOT DROP FOOTBALL/BASKETBALL/BASEBALL AND PICK UP SKATEBOARDING/BMX BIKES/ETC  more

Resolved Question: you guys think i have potential in basketball? can i still get better?

I started playing Basketball when i was in 3rd year HS.. no body taught me the basics like dribbling, layup post moves, passing, shooting all that drills basically i just picked up a ball and played against guys who were well into it.. i played with most of the school Varsity, several people who played for years and i managed to keep up.. i was 15 back then, now im 21 (in College) still no proper training i can shoot, i can pass, i can play good D and i can keep up with guys who have been playing longer than me..my question is do i have some potential to be EVEN better? is it not too late for me to improve on my game... ive played from 1-4 positions and ive been limited before because of my severe ankle injury now its better.. can i still get better? think i got potential any tips aside from practicing? when i play i go all out seriously even if its pick up games.. the first official game i played i did pretty well defensively though my problem was I looked untrained... i had a goodform but untrained...but in those years even if i wasnt trained i know i got a LOT better  more

Resolved Question: Why don't players 'declare' for the MLB draft?

In football, basketball, etc. players in college declare themselves for the professional draft when they're ready to turn pro. In baseball, it seems like the teams draft haphazardly, and it's not uncommon for a player taken high in the draft to choose to stay in school another year (or, if they're a high schooler, they might choose to go to college instead). Isn't this kind of a waste? Why doesn't pro baseball use the declaration system to prevent teams from wasting picks? Some of you are misunderstanding me. A player declaring for the draft is committing to enter pro ball in other sports (the same thing could apply for baseball despite the elaborate farm systems). Why doesn't baseball use a system that requires players who want to be drafted to commit to entering pro ball if picked in the draft?  more
