Resolved Question: Question for baseball card collectors. How is your collection sorted? By teams, players or card company?

I ask because I just bought a collection of about 5,000 cards(1990's thru 2007) & I have sorted them out by my favorite players(Jeter, A Rod, Utley, Howard, Manny & many others & have them in plastic sheets & in binders. My uncle collects cards & he go me into it & it's a fun hobby so far. I meant he got me into card collecting, not go Thanks to all who answerd my question. I recently purchased this collection from a guy who place an ad in a local newspaper & looking through cards, I did find a Derek Jeter rookie card(Upper deck) & many stars cards of Jeter, Pujols, Ichiro, & many others & paid $200 so it's maybe 5 cents a card but not looking as it money wise for future profit, but as a hobby that I am enjoying very much  more

Resolved Question: Authenticity of a baseball card autograph?

Hello all and thank you for reading this question. I got this card two days ago at a garage sale in a shoebox for 5 dollars http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q316/... ( it had about 250 dollars worth of OTHER cards in it too ) I used to be an avid football card collector so I am almost certain after examining that the card itself is genuine. However it is the autograph on the back that has me wondering... Here is a pic of it.. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q316/... and here is another that i photoshopped ( very quickly mind you it could be alot better >.< ) to try and make the letters stand out more. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q316/... I apologize for the sub par pic quality but I had to take them with my iPhone >.<. One thing that has me suspicious is that the autograph is on the back side of the card. I was only able to find two other pics of his autograph googling and both were on the front... Also, in both of the other images he writes his name as " Bill " or " Billy " instead of his actual name, William, as it appears on my card. I am no CSI detective but the handwriting ( spacing, loops ) seem to be spot on though. I know it is a tough question but if any of you baseball card experts out there could lend me some insight I would be immensely grateful. I plan on selling the card and I would like to know for certain whether or not the autograph is genuine. Thanks in advance !!! I don't know why but yahoo deleted my links >.<. Still, any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated !!!  more

Resolved Question: How much is this card worth?

I am a big collector of baseball cards, but just recently I found a couple football cards that a friend had given me in middle school. One of them is a 2004 Topps #47 LaDainian Tomlinson chrome draft pick rookie card. I'm still excited bout it. But seeing as I don't have a football price guide, and don't plan on getting one in the future, I was hoping someone would just give me a ballpark price on it. Thanks in advance.  more

Resolved Question: Are OLD baseball cards still worth as much and as collectible as they were 15 years ago?

I found a box of probably 600 cards from the early 50's and 60's in my grandpa's house. They all look like they have never been touched. Should I try to find out the value on my own or take them to a collector? I fear that they will try to rip me off and offer to buy the cards for far less then they are worth. Resolved Question: 1995 San Fran Chronicle Sports Section signed by Jerry Rice how much would it be worth to sell.?

The article signed by Jerry Rice is regarding his 1995 team receiving record where he caught 14 passes in 1 game for a total of 289 yards. I have a certificate of authenticity provided my Mr. B's Baseball Cards. The newspaper had no tears, wrinkles or fades of any kind. The siganture is still very bold and sharp. The other article on the page is somewhat related to Rice. Its Mariuccis move from Green Bay to Cal Bears in 1995. I have the complete sports section in the original hard plastic casing. Rice's article and signature is on the front page of the sports section and the main headline. I am just looking for even a rough estimate so i don't get taken advantage of by a more experienced collector now that i have to sell it as a means of income if possible. Any help i can get would be so much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help! Melissa  more

Resolved Question: Baseball cards appraisal online?

My nephews who are in their late twenties gave my son a collection of baseball cards that they had collected when they were younger. They are all in mint condition in a book with plastic sleeves and the others are in a two boxes, also in mint condition. These cards are from the 80's and 90's. My son is 11 years old and is not a sports nut and we would like to sell them to help fund his braces and or space camp or education. We were thinking there must be good places online where we could look up all the cards to find what they should go for. Any suggestions? Is it better to sell them individually or in bunches? Ebay or a collector shop? We don't know much about the value but I want him to get the most he can obviously. I don't want to go into this as we are knowing nothing and get short changed.  more

Resolved Question: What should I send to this baseball player?

As some of you know, I am an autograph collector, and do a lot through the mail. Well, today, I got a 7 x 10 package from a player. I didn't send that, just a card, and in there was a note from him that was handwritten and pretty long, and a pair of unused batting gloves that were supposed to be for him, but gave them to me to use. I am going to write him a thank you note, but should I give him something else? I feel guilty not giving him something? What should I do? I don't like when the 12 year olds on the site are out of school. They have too much time on their hands. I would like to give the player's name out, but I don't want people sending a bunch of fan mail to him, so I have chosen to keep it anonymous. Well, the note was definately personalized to me. I haven't got the card back yet, but the package was on priority mail and took only a night to get here, while a card in a regular envelope takes 3 days to get to my house from where I sent it to.  more

Voting Question: What is an MMO like Runescape or Neopets?

Now don't just say WoW or Mapplestory without reading everything and THEN deciding that is the best answer. I am a collector; I like collecting things - albeit baseball cards, DVD's, or whatnot. I enjoy MMO's with in-game currency which enable you to buy items in a collecting-esque fashion. I don't want to pay anything monthy, but if that is the best game, then so be it. I also prefer a game that runs in real time. Here's the biggest thing: I'm not really into the RPG thing. Runescape was probably as far as I would go; some people take things like WoW a little too seriously for me, so the the whole RP experience has never interested me. That being said, the whole 'fantasy' game isn't really what I'm in to. One final note: Nothing too childish/juvenile (like Club Penguin) please. I'm not 35 years old, but I'm not 8 either. THANKS!  more

Resolved Question: Revoke the independence of the United States of America?

This was sent out a few years ago as a joke. Apparently, an American came up with a reply. Does anyone know what it was? Thanks To the citizens of the United States of America, in the light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today. Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories. Except Utah, which she does not fancy. Your new Prime Minister (The Right Honourable Gordon Brown MP, for the 97.85% of you who have until now been unaware that there is a world outside your borders) will appoint a Minister for America without the need for further elections. The House of Representatives and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect: 1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium." Check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'favour' and 'neighbour'; skipping the letter 'U' is nothing more than laziness on your part. Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters. You will end your love affair with the letter 'Z' (pronounced 'zed' not 'zee') and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise." You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra' e.g. Edinburgh. You are welcome to re-spell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you can't cope with correct pronunciation. Generally, you should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. Look up “vocabulary." Using the same thirty seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "uhh", "like", and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. Look up "interspersed." There will be no more 'bleeps' in the Jerry Springer show. If you're not old enough to cope with bad language then you shouldn't have chat shows. When you learn to develop your vocabulary, then you won't have to use bad language as often. 2. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize." 3. You should learn to distinguish the English and Australian accents. It really isn't that hard. English accents are not limited to cockney, upper-class twit or Mancunian (Daphne in Frasier). You will also have to learn how to understand regional accents --- Scottish dramas such as "Taggart" will no longer be broadcast with subtitles. While we're talking about regions, you must learn that there is no such place as Devonshire in England. The name of the county is "Devon." If you persist in calling it Devonshire, all American States will become "shires" e.g. Texasshire, Floridashire, Louisianashire. 4. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as the good guys. Hollywood will be required to cast English actors to play English characters. British sit-coms such as "Men Behaving Badly" or "Red Dwarf" will not be re-cast and watered down for a wishy-washy American audience who can't cope with the humour of occasional political incorrectness. Popular British films such as the Italian Job and the Wicker Man should never be remade. 5. You should relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen", but only after fully carrying out task 1. We would not want you to get confused and give up half way through. 6. You should stop playing American "football." There are other types of football such as Rugby, Aussie Rules & Gaelic football. However proper football - which will no longer be known as soccer, is the best known, most loved and most popular. What you refer to as American "football" is not a very good game. The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside your borders may have noticed that no one else plays "American" football. You will no longer be allowed to play it, and should instead play proper football. Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is a difficult game. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which is similar to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like nancies). We are hoping to get together at least a US Rugby sevens side by 2010. You should stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the 'World Series' for a game which is not played outside of North America. Since only 2.15% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. Instead of baseball, you will be allowed to play a girls' game called "rounders," which is baseball without fancy team strip, oversized gloves, collector cards or hotdogs. 7. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry guns. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous in public than a vegetable peeler. Because we don't believe you are sensible enough to handle potentially dangerous items, you will require a permit if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public. 8. The 4th of July is no longer a public holiday. The 2nd of November will be a new national holiday, but only in Britain. It will be called "Indecisive Day." 9. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap, and it is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean. All road intersections will be replaced with roundabouts. You will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour. 10. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call 'French fries' are not real chips. Fries aren't even French, they are Belgian though 97.85% of you (including the guy who discovered fries while in Europe) are not aware of a country called Belgium. Those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut and fried in animal fat. The traditional accompaniment to chips is beer which should be served warm and flat. Waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers. 11. As a sign of penance 5 grams of sea salt per cup will be added to all tea made within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this quantity to be doubled for tea made within the city of Boston itself. 12. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling "beer" is not actually beer at all, it is lager . From November 1st only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." The substances formerly known as "American Beer" will henceforth be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," with the exception of the product of the American Budweiser company whose product will be referred to as "Weak Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine." This will allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in the Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion. 13. From the 10th of November the UK will harmonise petrol (or "gasoline," as you will be permitted to keep calling it until the 1st of April) prices with the former USA. The UK will harmonise its prices to those of the former USA and the Former USA will, in return, adopt UK petrol prices (roughly $6/US gallon -- get used to it). 14. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun. 15. Please tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us crazy. 16. Tax collectors from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all revenues due (backdated to 1776). Thank you for your co-operation. Contact InfoWebsite: www.fco.gov.uk Office: Foreign & Commonwealth Office Street: King James Street City/Town: London, United Kingdom The clean version please.  more

Voting Question: A house in probate?

My dad died and so his house is in probate. The mortgage company is Chase. He was an avid baseball collector and antiques collector. He had a ton of expensive cards and antiquesin the home. My uncle was appointed PR of his estate and went to thehome and took pictures to turn into probate. Without any notice Chase hired a real estate company and they came in and said they "threw out" all the stuff. We were never told to come and get the stuff or told that they were going to come out. We just happened to ride by the house and see the for sale sign and thats how we found out. Can they do that? DOnt you have to notify someone? They were notified that my dad had died and they had the name and attorney of my uncle. the house was not in foreclosure before my dad died The estate did not fail to notify the mortgage company Ihave a copyof the reg. letter that Chase received as well as a response letter. The house was notin foreclosure before his death. We got a copyof the payment history.  more
